Cmtech CA-C90
comment: 11 | Friday, March 11 (2005) 10:48AM | Posted by Lone
Fresh from the DAP paradise that is Australia, it's the Cmtech CA-C90 (ah, alliteration...awesome). It's a standard flash player with Mp3, WMA, and Ogg support, but out of the ordinary is its 1.9" color screen, enormous for a flash player, and not bad for standard picture viewing. In addition to the standard extras like FM radio and voice/line-in recording, the CA-C90 includes games, a text reader, phone book, stop watch, and calculator. Comes in capacities of 128, 256, and 512 MB (a little skimpy nowadays).

Thanks Cyburn

Seriously, who buys a 1.9" LCD photo displaying flash player w/ 128MB storage. I'd like to see Cmtech's sales figures for that model. The users of this forum should all go out and get EE degees so we can design our own players.

Yeah, everything is decent except the capacity; I thought we were past the days of 128 and 256 megs...

This product is kinda out-dated. I saw it long times ago in South Korean websites.

I've always kind of liked that design (since I first saw it) but really, flash players need expansion slots, especially if you're trying to make a feature rich player, which this appears to be. I can understand fixed memory in a budget player, but it's not a new feature; the earliest players had it...it's obvious it's desirable to users, and getting more so as memory prices come down. I guess the justification is so they can sell a variety of fixed memory sizes and possibly make a greater margin on the lower players, but personally I wouldn't mind a feature-rich and fairly priced player with NO memory but with a memory slot. This way the end user can decide what he wants to spend on memory and the manufacturer can concentrate on features and have zero memory costs. This protects them from falling memory prices and simplifies production. There are a couple of manufacturers following this model but i'd like to see WAY more.
