The New (sorta) Creative Zen!
comment: 10 | Thursday, March 17 (2005) 01:47AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
Following in the footsteps of Apple and iRiver, Creative will be going to a single design for thier MicroDrive (5-6gb) and 1.8-inch hard drive (20gb) players. The new Nomad Zen will be an enlarged version of the Zen Micro, basically. Makes sense, considering that the current Zen design never really caught on while Micro has been selling pretty well.

Here's what we know so far: the new 20-gig player will have a magnesium alloy body with dimensions of 95 x 62 x 19.5mm, at 141g.

Some pictures of it have been posted at CNET Asia, but if you know the Zen Micro, it's all the same. Just a tad bigger 'n heavier.

Thanks, aoshi98

good move by creative, I wonder what battery life will be like and if the battery is still removeable.

[Linky]

Specs page says the battery is 11 hours only. I think that's a battery door on the back, although I hope they come up with a method of recharging a battery without having it in the player.

But what the hell is a "belclip cum cradle", and why would I want it as an accessory on a DAP?

Everyone take heed, buy your expensive electronics at least 2 months after me. That way you will either make a saving or get a superior product.

Bought a digital camera, prices got slashed on better ones soon after.
Bought a router, prices got slashed again.
Bought a micro over a mini, and mini prices go down.

the new micros are to be shipped without ac adapters and other accessories.
I have to say creative is saving a lot of money on market research
Just do what apple does.

Um, Apple? I don't think so. Not yet, anyway.

Goddammit. I knew they were gonna do this. They screwed up with their Zen Touch models, so they're junking those. Glad I'm selling mine.

The black backing on this one looks cheap.
