JNC SSF-8000 - playing with cubes again

Remember that super-tiny ice-cool cube-shaped MobiBlu player, the DAH-1500? We've written some stuff on it around January. Apparently, someone has found the courage to rebrand the unit... suprise, suprise: it's JNC Digital we're talking about right now. Yes, they've shamelessly rebranded hardware originating from Mpio, i-Bead, Safa, Cowon and some 300 other brands.

Anyway, the cube-styled player is dubbed "SSF-8000" indeed seems to measure only 24 x 24 x 24mm, while weighing a mere 18 grams. Controls are mounted at the side of the player.

The internal battery is only a 130mA-strong thing, still manages worth about 15 hours of pure playback time (that's a five hour decline since our last report, but whatever). You probably figured out the OLED by yourself - let's add MP3/WMA & UMS support and FM tuner to that and we're done. The article seems to suggest a release somewhere this month, for what it's worth.

I would seriously consider buying the mobiblu version.

A cube? Isn't it kind of a PITA shape? I know it's geometrically perfect and all, and 1 inch on a side is nice and small, but it's kind of relentless, you know?

This thing is too damn cool for words. Is it possible to find the original version in North America, or are we stuck with the rebrand?

Mobiblu has an American department, so it's very probable that the DAH-1500 will make it overseas. They'd be mad to ignore this thing's mass-appeal factor.
