LuxPro can't stop shuffling - EZ Tangent & Top Tangent
comment: 15 | Friday, May 06 (2005) 12:07PM | Posted by Robert Sinke
Remember the whole deal with LuxPro's Shuffle-clone, the "Super Shuffle"? Well, they changed it into something less-provocative later on (the Super Tangent). But they didn't stop there. Pay attention, Apple.

Introducing the Shuffle with a screen, LuxPro is proud to present the EZ Tangent (MX-59xD / MX-109xD):

Obviously, just a Shuffle with an oled-screen (monochrome, 128 x 64 pixels) inside of it. Still does the usual tricks like FM radio and voice recording. Available in both 512MB and 1GB, if they ever make it outside of the factory.

LINK.

The same can be said for the Top tangent (MX-58xD/108xD):

Same principle, different screen orientation - this one's oled only measures 62 x 48 pixels.

Awesome!!! I like how Lux-Pro's gona and taken Crapple's design and improved on it. I still wouldn't buy one myself since I have no use right now for anything so small, but I still think it's cool. Wonder what the iPod fanboys' reactions are gonna be to this latest incarnation of LuxPro's design.

specs seem amazing, even if it is almost twice the size of the shuffle. i'll believe it when i see it, though. im trying to figure out how you would navigate a menu with the controls.

You do have to love luxpro, they're like the cheeky little boy at the back of the bus pulling his pants down and mooning the guy in the rolls royce behind. It's nice that they've shown everyone quite how easy it would have been for apple to put a screen in and how quickly they can move from a model without a screen to a model encorporating a screen. What's taking you so long Apple? Oh right, still waiting for the sales of your pen drive player to drop off before releasing one with some functionality. I hope Luxpro at least take 1% of your sales, they deserve it with nerve like that.

Fluidity, they have not shown haw easy or fast the addition of a screen is. they have created 2 websites with computer generated images and a list of impressive specs.
-no one has actually seen these players.
-no one knows what the UI is like.
-no one knows what the battery life is like.
-no one knows what the price is.
-no one knows what the sound quality is like.

its pretty obvious that lux pro made some money from the previous shuffle stunt, and they're trying to do it again.

i also think it was dumb to keep the controls oriented that way. since they are now at the bottom, the device is not very hand friendly like the regular shuffle design is.

Don't know about the two new ones, but the Super Shuffle will be "ready to sell and ship" in mid-May, or so they told me.

I'd love to see one of these things in real life 'though somehow I don't think I'll ever get a chance to. Personally, I think they're just trying to increase awareness for their other products by driving traffic to their website. Their ploy is working.

I don't see the point in ANY flash player. Besides, I'd buy a muvo v200 probably, if I ever bought anything.

A reply I got from Luxpro asking about it's availability:

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your attention to our products.
MX-595D/1095D (EZ Tangent) will be ready on the end of June
and will start to sell and ship in July.

Thank you.

"-no one knows what the UI is like. "

Well, *any* UI is better than no UI. =P

If the Tangents offer decent battery life and sound quality, I may consider getting one, heh.

UI or no UI, the big dealbreaker is if it works with iTunes or not. If it doesn't, what's the point?
