Sonic Battle-Review: Gigabeat F20 vs. Karma vs. H320
comment: 0 | Friday, June 10 (2005) 02:46PM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
Some dude over at the Head-Fi.org forums has whipped up a RightMark Audio Analyser test of 3 popular DAPs: Toshiba's F20, Rio's Karma, and iRiver's H320. As he was careful to mention, as are we, this does not prove anything, especially as to which one sounds better than another. For some reason, it seems that people do not have identically shaped ears nor an identical process for anylzing sound, so the question of which player sounds better will forever be a highly subjective proposition. With that said, measured results are still an interesting thing to ponder. The winner, going by best test measurements, is the Rio Karma. See, we told you that it rules, and stuff.

Man, the guy must have had a lot of time on his hands, but I do appreciate the effort....Karma is always so tempting.

Based on the positive distortion test results he got for the Gigabeat F20, perhaps PC Mag. got a bad F60 unit to test. They should test another unit.

Yeah, after seing this data on the Gigabeat and the rest of the player you have to wonder if PC Mag did get a bad F60... But that is realy Toshibas fault. Not a smart move by them!

These test are done with Flat EQ though... and the guy over at PC Mag did say that the Gigabeat did sound great with with the EQ set to flat...

nothing new here. the Karma was (is) the last DAP designed as a real music player should be designed, with gapless playback, parametric EQ and strong headamp.

How come the Line Out of the H340 was considerably better than the headphone out?
