Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard flight DAP-1764. Below you will see a picture of the XBook Portable Multimedia Player - "PMP" in short. Although many of you will be unaware or simply don't care, fact is that this device was rebranded by XBook. There was this Asian company called "Keian"; and it is this company that can be credited for designing the original PMP - take your brochure and look it up if you like.

So what does the XBook PMP have to offer us? Let's start off with hard drive space: 30GB. There's a 3.5-inch color TFT-LCD to display AVI movies and JPEG pictures. The only audio format supported seems to be MP3 for now. The feature set also includes a 3MP camera with swivel-mounted lens & built-in flash, video recorder, voice recorder, (alarm) clock, an agenda that can be synched to Windows' Outlook, SD/MMC expansion slot and tv-out. Not too bad, overall.

Seems to be using a (easily replaceable) li-ion battery, no playback performance specification has been made public at this point. Measuring 136 x 80 x 24,3mm, weighing some 295 grams, the XBook PMP isn't the most compact or lightweight of the lot... nor is it the cheapest one around. We've found it at Fnac.com, where it's supposed to cost no less than 599 Euro - that amount will almost get you an Archos AV4100 (100GB), if you look around for a bit.

This is not designed by Keian. It is designed and manufactured by a Taiwan company.
