Creative Zen Vision - iPodesque PVP-ism at its best?
comment: 32 | Sunday, July 10 (2005) 12:43PM | Posted by Robert Sinke
Any sane person would have a hard time understanding such a news header, but well - you'll get the bottom line. The Zen Vision - one of many aces up Creative's long, long sleeve - has popped up again. And, like the last time, it's Creative itself providing the data here.

We already knew there was a white version of the Vision out there, but some new artwork helps to inspire the brainwaves a bit more.

No, specs haven't changed during that short pause... The Vision still has that potentially marvelous 3.7" TFT LCD (640x480 pixels, 262k colors for video playback), still measures 124.2 x 74.4 x 20.1mm @ 239 grams and its casing is still made out of magnesium alloy. Yes, it does have video-out. Ah well, we don't really feel like summing it up all again, so just take a look HERE (or, if that's been pulled offline again, here).

More high-res shots HERE (and after the jump )

im so angry at creative if you look at the picture the back button is all the way at the top that makes it very hard to navigate through your music a lot.

That is a seriously sexy PMP. I'm gonna get it in white to match my iPod

Btw, what's the thing above the Back button? Looks sorta like an infra red port, perhaps for a remote?

Sounds, as if it could have a display that is not that inferior to the Epson P-2000 screen, the quality leader so far for pics. It is nice that the Creative is just 239g compared to the "huge" Epson with its 415g.

"nym9 is probably wetting his pants right about now. "

lol

Its Creative that are wetting their pants, knowing how well the Zen Vision is going to sell, because unlike its "competitors" its a complete product.

Can anyone help me identify the port on the bottom next to the USB port? The only thing I can think of is that it is for a docking station of some kind, but I have not seen any mention of one. That would be most excellent

Also - if anyone has had access to it yet - can you tell me if it can display both to the local screen and video out at the same time? I know this is not ideal for battery consumption - but it would make it awesome for a in car replacement to a DVD player. Have the remote screens in the back for the kids, and the PMP up front so that the parents can select the videos for them.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

The port on the bottom looks very similar to the one used by the iPod...

The original PMC had a docking station, so I reckon this one will have something like that too... optional @ $50'ish, probably. beh :p.

I have the current 20 gb Media Center. Nice machine, and video looks great, though it _appears_ to have some problems playing MP3's made at certain oddball bitrates. I'm still looking into this. I use it mostly for displaying special purpose 384kbps Windows Media Encoder 9 transcodes of DVDs. Flawless.

I like the 30gB capacity of this unit but really need 100gB or more! Too bad you're losing noticeable battery life and a smidge of screen size compared to the current black unit. Still should be worth it though. Now if they release an optional hi-cap battery, that would be cool.

Looks like the bottom port is indeed for a docking station.
Only 1 screen active at a time. if u enable ext display, onboard shuts off.

Yes, that is a very beautiful device but still doesn't seem to be more than a recap of previous features...

I would like to see some innovative developments, but at least this player seems to have accomplished a great combination of many features.

I will be looking out for this player.
Is there any word on release date?

Wow Creative!

The Zen Vision - finally! I have been wanting to get a multi-format media
player.. wow...

The only thing i could nit-pick at it would be - Too bad it doesn't have WiFi in it... (not really a nit-pick, just a wish...)

Still, Creative hates admitting the Vision being real and all, keep pulling it offline, then throw it online again... Probably something to do with pissed-off PMC owners who were waiting for a firmware upgrade rather than a new player.

Hey JayZ,

How did you confirm only one screen at a time? Or is this just the way that all of them work? Seems like this should be configurable...

Ahh, very nice.. but, looks like Creative removed it from its site again. Anyone know if they definitely removed the Microsoft interface that was used in the Zen Portable Media Center? I really hate that "my music" crap, but also, it's kinda interesting that the Vision can sync w/Outlook though.
