MobiBLU DAH-1500 Reviewed
comment: 17 | Monday, July 11 (2005) 09:37AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
From anythingbutipod.com:

"If I had to change something about the MobiBLU DAH-1500 it would be the poor track transition and this may be fixable in the future by a firmware update. It is what I believe to be the player’s only major fault. Other than that, MobiBLU has created a very nice MP3 player in a miniature package without sacrificing usability. The DAH-1500 is a great on-the-go player for its tiny size and necklace headphones. The screen is bright and the navigation is well thought out. Transferring music on and off of the player is a snap by simply dragging and dropping without the need of additional software."

Pro: tiny, bright OLED display, Universal Storage Device, easy to use
Con: tiny, slow file transfer, poor track transition, no DRM support

Read the whole bit HERE. [ via engadget ]
The DAH-1500 is available in the US only from the manufacturer, via eBay.

I like how on ebay these come with a $10 itunes gift cert that cannot play the files that you download. Interesting concept. The "protective" sleeve is funny looking. The shade needs some tweaking, wearing a cube would be funny looking.

reasons i would get the shuffle before this:
-proprietary connector
-odd shape
-price
-other complaints mentioned in review

reasons i envy this:
-size
-weight
-awesome looking screen
-drag and drop

they never mention any battery tests. i'm curious about that.

I bought one from Ebay. It's great, a real attention grabber.

Pros: Well Covered Already
Cons:
a) Must disconnect USB device in taskbar before unplugging or will not recognize next time. (Might still be my error, but it's happen on two different computers).
b) Random is not so random. If files are in folders, will random play a few songs in one folder till moving onto the next one.
c) I had some audio distortion when I first used it, though seems to cleared itself up.
d) Lag between songs.
e) Hard to run with it, bouces around too much with provided headphones

Hopefully most of these can be fixed in firmware. Still darn cool. I'll keep my Neuros for megastorage and this for new songs.

that last comment was from me.

if they made this available in the US, had a price point <= $150 for the 1gb, supported DRM, and fixed the track issue mentioned in the review, they could really cut into the shuffle market. if they used the sexy advertising that i've seen, they could do even better.

its too bad the flash market as a whole is doing pretty crappy.

In response to 5th post:

You do not have to disconnect from toolbar. I can connect and disconnect anytime i want without any problems. It acts no different from a thumb drive.

Oh and about it bouncing it around when you run... try tucking it into your shirt ; ) ...works like a charm

When I was vacationing in HongKong/China people seemed to be really interested in these things. That and this small flash mp4 player whose name and manufacturer I didn't recognize. Not to many people were interested in the shuffle (might of been the price or the lack of a screen). HD players were really hard to come by.

Should of bought some to bring back and sell here in the states. I wish we had more players to choose from as other countries do.

Yeah when I was in Hong Kong EVERYONE has a tiny MP3 player and earbuds. My friends said the shuffle is not that great because no screen. They wish it had a screen like the new sony's. This im sure would be big in HK. Since its not standard connector I would not be able to plug into my friends computer with out lugging the cable. that sucks.

I had the 2nd anonymous comments above....

Just updated the firmware and it fixed the uneven random play errors.

That seals the deal for me, this player is definitely worth it!

Hello - I am from mobiBLU and we would like everyone to know that we have recently launched the DAH-1500i in the US market through our launch partner, walmart.com. The 1500i ADDS WMA DRM (digital rights managment) and USB 2.0 to the Cube MP3 Player. The DAH-1500i is the only authorized product for the US market and the JNC product (the original DAH-1500 AKA JNC SFF-8100, SFF-8005 and SFF-8002) is being sold outside the US market. The JNC DOES NOT HAVE DRM AND USB 2.0!! If you are a customer in the US please visit [Linky] for purchasing the DAH-1500i with the advanced features and great price! They offer the player in six different colors and in both 512MB and 1GB capacities. THANK YOU!!
