7-inch screen PMP'n... Wistar PMP-710

Well, we're in a generous mood now. Poor little visitors all dried up on DAP news, we can't bear the thought of that. So here you go: we're throwing in a huge portable media player, the PMP-710. Manufactured by the same company as that triangular-shaped thing below this news post (the MP-209, to be precise).

Guess what - we actually already reported on this thing BEFORE. We published a blurry picture on this particular player back then, so it's for real alright. Just didn't know the specifications. As always, we're trying to serve you in the best possible way - so here's the sum-up:

  • Built-in Rechargeable Lithium Battery
  • Play time: 3 hours
  • Composite Video/Stereo Audio/Digital Audio output
  • Support MPEG1/2/4 formats, Mp3/WAV/WMA plus JPEG/BMP/GIF/TIFF
  • 7-inch Panasonic TFT screen
  • 3.5 inch Hitachi 20GB HDD (40GB optional)

Only 3 hours of playback time? Ah well, guess the Archos AV700 doesn't last for too long either. That big a screen is cool for pimping around with, but it'll consume more energy than a 3 year old toddler in Disney Land.

No indication size or price, but it looks... reasonably compact... somehow. Screen takes up the bulk of the design anyway.

3.5" HDD? and only 20 gigs? why don't they just build in a 250 gig disk then if they're going with 3.5...

I'm wary of anything Hitachi.

Took TWO walks with my Karma - HD required percussive maintenance.
Flew with a Toshiba F40 to New York, pounded a few dozen miles of pavement, trips, etc, flew back - and returned it to Fry's with nary a scratch.
