PSP Software Update Page at Sony Japan

Note: all ya need to do is download the firmware file HERE, and copy that to the Sony MS Duo card in: ROOT > PSP > GAME > UPDATE. I had to create the GAME and UPDATE directory myself. Then just boot her up, go the UMD section, load from disk, and get started. Went off without a hitch for me.

Great update, Sony. Now I don't feel so bad for updating to 1.51 when I first got it, making it unable to play all those emulators and hacks...

The updates looks interesting... I hope homebrew catch-up soon (unlikely, but...).

i don't have any network security setup on my router so any internet access point should work. i'm sure this update pretty much cuts off all the homebrew action but at least they give you some really nice features instead.

Hmm... Are there any downsides associated with updating to Japanese firmware? Will I still be able to play Region 1 UMD movies?

the same thing for me. you actually have to charge it, hence the error that says "charge your psp". so charge it and then it will work

I updated yesterday and like the new features, especially the browser. What I know so far is this will in no way affect the region of UMD's you watch or video files converted to MP4, it still uses the same naming technique as before. However my homebrews will not work as someone earlier said they do now. Am I doing something wrong with those or is that why Sony released this new version. All people out there with PSP's get working on homebrews for v2.00!!!!!!!!!!!

Austin Vaughan

Jul 28 (2005) 04:01AM

yeah, that was part of the idea. give people a reason to upgrade from 1.50. homebrews do not work on anything after 1.50 - they've patched it to deal with that. it could be a long time if ever before they get homebrews working on 2.0...

I wonder if Sony actually left out features on purpose so they could provide upgrades and make people want to upgrade. It would be a clever ploy effectively letting people uncover any flaws in your DRM system so you can identify how best to fix them and as you do, insert some nice new features alongside the fixes so people are likely to want to upgrade to the new version to get those features and in the process close that problematic loophole for you. Maybe I'm just cynical!

Today I updated my Taiwanese PSP using the Japanese 2.0 firmware and it works great! Everything is still in English *phew*.

Does anyone know how to access HTML files on the memory stick from within the web browser? I would like to read some ebooks. Is there a specific directory where they need to go? I installed <div class='indent'>E:\PSP\FOO.HTML</div> and tried to open it using <div class='indent'>file://foo.html</div> but it didn't work. Too much beer?

To update your PSP, put "EBOOT.PBP" in the directories PSP/GAME/UPDATE. The PSP would detect it as a system update instead of a game.

Also, you have to have 50% minimum battery life and the AC adaptor must be plugged in in order to update your PSP.

BowDownBuddha

Guest
Aug 05 (2005) 07:39PM

for those having problems with the game not loading, make certain that you name your folders in caps. it can't be PSP/Game/Update. it has to be PSP/GAME/UPDATE. then just run it and it'll work great.

ok im going to discribe the whole process for you, the eboot must all be in caps and must be in a folder named "UPDATE" in the game folder.your battery must be at least 50% full and u must plug your psp into the wall using the ac adapter.you can not run homebrews like on 15.0 and 1.00 firmwares, but you can run certain html file using the web browser, u must put the html in the main root directory of your psp's memory stick. then in your web browsers address bar type in the exact name of the html (including the .html) and it will show up, if it says content can not be displayed then either your psp doesn't allow java or your html just wont run on the psp.and if you can't get a signal then you need to make sure your router's security is off, and you need to make sure your psp's connection is set up to connect with your router(mine is all on automatic settings)

Unfortunately this update of 2.0 for the PSP does not allow homebrews, as many people seem to ask. I stupidly upgraded from my firmware 1.50 to this 2.0. Its not bad firmware, but i lost my ability to play homebrews... There is a rumor going around that says that the US release will allow homebrews, is that true? (does anyone know yet) I guess if noone can answer it, i can just download the update in 2 days.. and see if it works or not.

shadowY2K

Guest
Aug 10 (2005) 06:39PM

the release date for the US 2.00 firmware is august 12th, i dont think u will b able 2 update 2.00 jap. to 2.00 US firmware, and i highly doubt sony allowing homebrew on the US firmware if they didn't let it on 2.00 jap.

Brewmaster

Guest
Aug 10 (2005) 08:40PM

I see... Well, if they ever did make homebrews availeable, then i would definitely be happy... So would many other gamers across the US and other countries.. I bet Sony would get alot more sales that way too. Imagine, if they just let Homebrews be allowed on it, they would get all the ROM gamers to buy it so they could play it out of the house, ya know? As long as they put a disclaimer or something, then it would be OK for them...

shadowY2K

Guest
Aug 11 (2005) 11:06AM

yes, i agree with that but unfortunetaly sony probably wont let homebrew on the psp for there own personal reasons, which sucks

Can't believe you are having to hold so many peoples hand ShadowY2K.

The whole process is p#ss easy, HERE IS THE STEP BY STEP ASS CLOWN GUIDE

Step 1. Click on the HERE link to get the EBOOT.PHP file downloaded onto your PC.

Step 2. Connect your PSP via USB Cable to your PC (Make sure you go to the USB option on the Home menu of your PSP)

Step 3. Make sure you have a Memory stick Duo in your PSP with 16mb of room (Don't worry about moving stuff to your pc while you install the Firmware as you can delete the file after)

Step 4. Locate your PSP in Start>My Computer>Devices With Removable Storage. Then Open the drive

Step 5. Click on PSP Folder then GAME folder now right click and create a new folder called UPDATE (Making sure that all the folders are in Capitals)

Step 6. Drag the downloaded file EBOOT.PHP into this new folder

Step 7. On your PSP, come out of USB and go to GAME (Little PS2 Controller Icon) press O, now you should see Update 2.0

Step 8. Make sure your PSP is connected to an AC Battery Charger (the thing that plugs into the wall and gives your PSP life) now press O on the update and it will install itself after you have agreed to the terms.

The update will not affect your system, it will not change the language, it will however not allow Homebrew or other piracy software until the Homebrew people have updated their products to the new firmware I.E. you cannot put a DVD into a CD player and expect it to work

If this still doesn't work then you seriously need to stop buying electrical equipment hamish boy

the 2.00 update is safe, i haven't heard of anyone's psp's being messed up by it. and as for the movie problem video files must be named in the format of M4Vxxxxx where "xxxxx" is any five-digit number, like 00001 or 01323.

thanks for the response. since i used the mpeg4 (mp4) movies on the usa 2.0, i had all the convections correct (folder names, locations, etc). when i use the jap 2.0, the message "This video cannot be played" pops up. i checked the info for the video and the video codex & audio codex matches the values for videos that i CAN play (downloaded examples of upcoming games).

Ok, don't ask how but, I blew up the Psp internal power connector (the yellow part on the PSP that lets me charge using an AC adapter) I now charge my battery using this power logik I bought from EB. So this means I can't charge my Psp using the AC adapter or the USB cable. Now the question is how can I get the update if the instuctions tell me to charge my PSP to full, which it is, and have the AC plug in which is blown out. How can I get around this problem before I have to buy a replacement part. Help me out before it comes to it someone, anyone.

It hasn't been a year since you bought the system so you can return it to Sony for exchange.

Happened to me. Not sure If I blew it up but the AC adapter wouldn't charge my PSP so I returned it to Sony Headquarters and they exchanged a new 1.5 firmware PSP for no charge.
