iRiver U10: 1gb and 2gb models to launch in EU
comment: 0 | Friday, August 05 (2005) 06:57AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
iRiver's U10 has made its way into most of thier regional websites, but is still missing from iRiverAmerica.com. The EU site shows a 1gb and 2gb model will be available at launch. No mention yet of the high-capacity models that we're expecting later (using an 8gb MicroDrive). At least the specs are listed in English now...

  • "direct click" controller, push the top, bottom, left and right sides of the screen to navigate
  • Supports: MP3, WMA (+DRM), OGG, JPG, TXT, and MPEG4 SP (15fps max)
  • FM radio with 12 presets, record to MP3
  • Output power 15mw/channel
  • EQ: 10 presets plus a custom parametric equalizer (like Rio Karma's, we wonder?)
  • Display: 2.2-inch TFT at 320x240 pixels
  • Built-in mic for voice recording to MP3
  • Direct Audio Recording to MP3 (via line-input)
  • Built-in battery good for up to 20 hours playback
  • Size 69 x 47 x 16mm, Weight 70g
  • Docking station and remote will be available for sale seperately
Interesting to note it also supports MacroMedia Flash Lite 1.1 for games and watching flash animations.

"Giant display, no buttons or knobs - that's what the future looks like"

Guess this isn't the future yet - I can make out two buttons on the actual unit itself and a couple of those on the remote control

If it has standard USB connection, Tag Browsing, and drag'n drop transfer... lt's the way to go!

Does this thing have flash memory or a HD? I couldn't find a reference to that on the whole iRiver specs site.

Suddenly Creative and iRiver are not interested in playing catchup to Apple anymore.

Anyone have a clue on the price range on these ?

Europe: 239 Euro for the 1GB version - 289 Euro for the 2 gigger. Quite 'spensive, indeed. Translate those amount into USD by just replacing the Euro symbol by the "$" sign, that's how it works most of the time.

See [Linky] click on the U10 and click on "Fler bilder" for lots of pictures...

Also fun to see that they have made their product shots at IKEA. Hope they agreed upon that in advance..

I can only see 1 UK online store taking pre-orders on these at the moment:

They're selling for £200/Euro289/$355: a bit too expensive for me. The website also says that they'll be receiving stock on 1st September.
