Ok, ok - I'll admit... the term "Godcasting" brought a smirk on my face. I'm sure it popped up some place else before, but it was new to me, so there you go.
Anyway, Rev Leonard Payne (vicar of a some jurisdiction in Suffolk, UK), has found out that people like listening to his sermons but probably can't be bothered with going to church all the time.
""We were stunned. Within a short period of time, over 2,400 people had downloaded one of the sermons," he said yesterday.
"The volume was so great we had to change servers and in the last five days of July, over 230 copies of our talks have been delivered, an incredible reaction to the work of a small rural congregation."
Payne doesn't believe his Godcastings will replace the traditional way of preaching (like, in the actual church and stuff) - it's a useful tool, not a replacement. Actually, I've heard of a Dutch vicar (or whatever tier-of-God he was in) operating in the US, who did exactly the same thing a couple of months ago. | | |
And it makes sense in a way - you don't need to sermons "live and direct", now do you? Nice way to familiarize the "eldery" part of our society with the whole DAP scene too, no? Plus, music from bands like P.O.D. & FM Static (had to look that up) could probably be integrated into the whole thing to liven up these kind of podcasts (in case you'd want to reach the younger crowds as well). Ah, the power of brainstorming.
Now we need a valid alternative for school lectures. Insert some jamming guitars and pumpin' bass in those, please.
