There's a nice deal on the 512mb Lexar LDP-600 at JR.com. This is one of the few flash players with an integrated FM transmitter. Besides MP3 and WMA playback it also has FM radio and radio recording, voice recording, an SD card slot, custom EQ settings, and 14 hours playback per charge. Other nices touches include a backlight with 7 user-selectable colors and it comes with a pair of Sennheiser MX-400 earbuds (good quality). All that for 79 bucks. Cheaper than the iPod Shuffle and they even toss in an LCD display for free.

Check it out HEREicon.

It is. Idv3 tagging or no file browse mode. your choice.
Idv3 tagging with a range of language support. Asian too.
FM transmitting.
SD slot.
On the fly playlisting which they call Bookmarks. Which is not exactly Bookmarks.

Plus they've got some good firmware support;they've already fixed the problems that cropped up.

But--> internal lithium battery.

I can never understand why people buy internal lithium batteries. Batteries die out, dangit. And they give progressively worse battery life as it ages.

Goram, Nimh batteries for everyone.

You can get the same player at JR without the fm transmitter for just $69. Also, this puppy supports microsoft DRM (is that janus?), so it can be used with subscription services. Can somebody tell me why the huge price diff between 512K and 1GB SD cards. The 512 card is reasonable. The 1GB card is $90 bucks!

Found a 1GB SD card for $60 bucks. So, for $140 bucks you can have a 1.5GB flash dap with fm transmitter AND the sennheiser earbuds. I have the sennheisers; excellent low cost phones. A real bonus coming with dap for free.

Ok, here are the dimensions: 3 1/4" (L) x 1 1/2" (W) x 2/3" (D)

For you metric freaks that's: 82.5mm x 38mm x 16.75 mm

Not the most svelte player, but still pocket-friendly.

The reason the LDP-600 is cheap is that it’s been marked down. This 512MB one was about $170 at mid retail life. The reason it’s been marked down is that the navigation is terrible, and so there were probably too many returns.

You can search the forums for “LDP-600” to see what I thought of it a few months ago, when the disappointments were fresher in my conciousness. The main thing I didn’t like was that the two rocker switches on the side have too many functions alocated to them. Sometimes the directions of the switches were reversed, resulting in an all-around navigation nightmare. If only the device had a joystick, such as what the iAudio G3 has (which is what I replaced my LDP-600 with), it would probably be a great device.

One clear advantage that this player has over other players that have an SD-slot, this one actually has a compartment that fully encloses (thus protects) the SD-card. In contrast, the Sandisk Sansa device (and all others I’ve checked out that belong in this category) just has an external SD-slot, which leaves the card sticking out slightly, ready to cause damage to the player or itself (think about how careful you typically are with these devices - I usually jam my G3 into my pocket without a worry). If anyone knows of other flash players that fully enclose the SD-card (other than Rio Forge/Cali/Chiba models), I’d love to hear about them.

Internal batteries are stupid - Make that one more reason not to buy this.
