DAPreview scopes out Rockbox for iRiver iHP/H1xx
comment: 2 | Thursday, September 08 (2005) 09:35AM | Posted by Lone
We reported on the Rockbox firmware initiative in the past when it was first blooming, and now it's time to report again, as the firmware is available and very usable, even in an unfinished state. Promising features like OTF playlisting, menu customization, and even gapless playback certainly got the attention of many DAP owners. But does it live up to the hype? Does my iHP-120 graduate from 'paperweight' status by flashing Rockbox?

Read to find out.

iRiver should just add a color screen to a H100 and get rid of the 20GB H10

I wish they'd get the one for the Gmini series done.

It's a pity they've focused on such an old player, that was actually pretty good anyway.

I want to see a rockbox for the NW-HD5 !!!!

well when they started it wasn't actually that old. and frankly, the h120 is still an amazing piece of hardware with a lot more features and abilities than any of the new models...

I agree. As far as features, build and sound quality go, it's still high up there with other top DAPs.

All this is true, but after handling the iPod nano in the Apple store today, I've felt a bit self concious of the size of the H120... not that I'd swap it! Not until iPod gets radio, competitive battery life and the main functions of RB,
