Austin Vaughan | | Hey, where have we seen this one before? Ah yeah, Rob's IFA report from just a week ago. This same player made an appearance under the JVC brand and was called the Alneo XA-HD500. It's branded as a Victor in Japan, but it's the same company (Victor Comany of Japan = JVC). Anyway, AV Watch has a nice collection of pictures for us today - see HERE. Unfortunately, The XA-HD500 is no more interesting now that it was a week ago. This is your basic 6gb audio player with a generic design and nothing fancier than MP3 and WMA DRM playback. On the product page - see HERE - they claim it can hold 3000 songs and play for 30 hours, but a small footnote reminds you that this is possible only with 64kbit WMA files.
The XA-HD500 should be available in November and will come in 2 colors, gold and black. As Rob reported, the price may be as high as 350 Euro.

Marketing techniques just make it interesting to look at the fine print. The downfall of the JVC's iteration of a DAP , too little, and maybe too late. If they want something a bit different, they could be Kenwood or Toshiba (or many other DAPs competing in the price range).
