comment: 23 | Monday, September 19 (2005) 12:08PM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
Cowon's super-fabulous new A2 is already in the hands of some lucky Koreans. A very professional looking review was posted on iAudio.com, so head on over and enjoy the pics. See HERE.

Thanks, mintcheerios

And yes, we'll be getting one of our own very soon now and then we can give you the scoop in English.

its a fair first shot from cowon as far as pvp's go. im not impressed with its design or its size though. looks about as thick as an av300 series player which was thick when they came out but acceptable because of the lack of alternatives and the four vertical buttons look like those an the old school tv remote controll that my great grandma used to have. im intersted to see how many people bring up the same "confusing interface" argument that the av300 and 400 series got because of the vertical button lay out and the horizantal corosponding menus.

hmm ok i checked some stats and well it is thinner than an av320 but in the same breath it is still bigger than the 30gb av500 in all dimensions despite the fact that it has the same size screen but i am not sure what the batter life of the A2 is.

they say the battery life is 10 hrs video, 16 hrs audio. Before if i remember correctly, they said it was 20 hrs for audio. i wanna see shots of this next to the X5.

Too bad it doesn't display album art. As a former AV320 user I can attest to the confusing button layout. The first time I saw a picture of the A2 I immidiatly thought , "Hey that is just like my old AV320 and why would they do it like that, it didn't work on the AV320 either?"

All the specs are known by now. Nothing new to get excited by now except for a arrival date in Europe.

I second the call for shots next to the x5...

The I-station v43 will probably have the best interface since it has a touchscreen + stylus, but the A2 has av recording. I'm still torn on which to get.

Also the A2 isn't that big. Most pictures are done using macro shots which makes it look massive.

These pictures put it into a better perspective.

Having used my Pocket PC as a DAP for many months now I can tell you a touch screen on a DAP or PMP is overrated. I good interface is much more important then any touch screen can ever be.

a touch screen sucked, badly, on the Olympus MR-500. we can do without quite nicely.

LOL! In the link from mintcheerios, i love the pic where the A2 is next to iriver's U10, and the A2's kinda got the "full picture" of what the U10's displaying. That's actually kinda creative marketing, imho. And yeah, those pics definately give a better feel for the size. It actually looks petty small compared to those headphones they show.

@ netherlands, I have an av3xx player too and never found the button layout confusing i brought it up because it always bothered me that people would list it as a con when its realy plainly obvious what does what and that having the three influence buttons makes completing functions more direct and easy. the shape of those buttons as i mentioned before though they look oldschool and i dont mean hip retro type oldschool i mean grandmas old crapy, prolly the first wireless, tv remote controll oldschool. i think out of habit i would bang the side of the player with my palm as if i was jiggeling the batteries to get the damn thing to work.

Cowon A2 vs I-station v43

Cowon: Available everywhere in USA, supported everywhere.
I-Station: Available.....nowhere in USA, supported nowhere.

Yeah that was a real tough decision.

cowon a2 is already out on Korea market, and you can get them from ebay.com. A2 is far better than istation i2 comparing picture and sound quality because I own both of them. Battery life is much longer too. However, it doesn't have touch screen like istation. I can't complain becuz it has 4inch screen and picture looks much clear. If I-station v43 comes out on market it will be interesting competition, however, we are not sure when it will come out. V43 will be also 4inch screen with touch screen function so picture quality will be lower than cowon I belive.
