Sanyo Diply Music (DMP) 600 & 700

Next to the spectatcularly boring 6GB HDP-M3000, Sanyo is also coming up with something more distinctive flash-based DMP-Mx00 series.

These things look like short, square straws (at a size of 87x15.6×15.6mm) , yet despite this fact they do come with (long-stretched, 1-line, multi-color backlit) LCD screens. MP3 and WMA (DRM, except for version nr 10) are supported and there's an FM tuner in there as well.

There's the M600 (512MB capacity) and the 1GB M700, in a wide variety of colors to choose from. Japanese MSRPs are 18k Yen and 23k Yen (512MB, 1GB respectively), which boils down to some 130 and 170 Euro/Dollar and all.

Could have been an old MiniDisc remote too, really. Eye-catching designs usually do the trick over in Japan, so this might actually work out fine for Sanyo - a company which came up with a 5GB voice recorder quite a few months ago already, if anyone cares.

Hey, more competition, the better. I think Sony was going with a similar design (elongated tube) on some of its earlier Network Walkmans.

I quite like the elongated tube look, but scrolling through song lists would be a bitch.

Hahahaha looks like the ugly stick found a way to beat its self... but on a more serious note... I dont like it overall... the single line lcd does nothing for me... and the fact that its ALMOST the size of a pencile is dissapointing... just a little smaller and I could replace this with the pen I always carry around... which wouldnt be a bad function for this thing come to think about it... who needs mp3 cell phones? Ive got an mp3 PEN

According to the Sanyo execs it stands for DIgital music PLaYer. I can see the marketing department at the brand meeting: "I wonder if Dipshit translates into French!"
