iUbi PMP-2010 specs - clunky thing of cheapness

Well, only shortly after the iUbi PMP-2010 had shown its bulky behind once more, there is this update. Some specifications to be found hereunder:

  • Capacity: 40GB (100GB underway)
  • 4.3-inch, wide TFT color LCD screen (made by Samsung), resolution 480×272
  • Dimensions: 139.8 x 80 x 25mm (depth including additional battery compartment: 31.8mm)
  • Weight: 320 grams
  • Supports MP4, DivX3.11/4/5, XviD, MP3, WMA, WAV
  • USB2.0 compatible
  • MSRP: presumably 300k Korean Won (40GB) & 400k Korean Won (100GB)

Well, this surely is one of the weirder PMPs (PVR actually) around. It's kind of... huge, in terms of dimensions. Compare this set of new'ish/upcoming players:

  • 1191 x 76 x 25mm: MSI MV-588, 20GB
  • 120 x 94.55 x 276mm: PQI mPack 600, 20/30GB
  • 123.0 x 76.8 x 21.5mm: i-Station i2, 20/30GB
  • 124 x 76 x 183mm: Archos AV500, 30GB
  • 124.2 x 74.42 x 20.1mm: Creative Zen Vision, 30GB
  • 133 x 79 x 22mm: Cowon A2, 20/30GB
  • 133x 79 x 25.5mm: i-Station V.43, 30GB
  • 136.1 x 78 x 26.5mm: Neuros 442, 40GB
  • 139 x 79 x 22mm: Bluenics T.On 1000, 20GB
  • 139.84 x 80 x 25mm: iUbi PMP-2010, 40/100GB
  • 209 x 107 x 19mm: Archos AV7007, 40/100GB
1,2,3 = most compact in terms of length, width and depth respectively
4,5,6 = least compact in terms of length, width and depth respectively
7= 7-inch player, not taken in consideration
That's pretty obvious, innit? The PMP-2010 is downright huge, especially if you consider installing the supposedly additional battery pack. Also far from lightweight at 320 gram, leaving only the Neuros 442 (325 grams) behind while parring with the V.43.

It does have some pros as well, though - the high-quality screen (we've seen it ourselves some months ago), video recording... and, above all: it's going to be uber-cheap (if the translation machine has done its job properly, that is).

To Korean standards, 300k Won for a 40GB PVR is insanely affordable - same goes for 400k Won for the 100GB edition (an even better deal, if you'd ask me). Take the standard i-Station i2, 20GB, for instance: that costs about 400k Won in online shops. A 30GB Cowon A2? 500k Won, please.

It kind of makes sense too - the old faithful, somewhat weird iUbi PMP-2020 was chunky too, also offered a lot of bang for the bucks (terrible video recording performance on that one) and indeed: it was cheap. So if the good old DAPreview-converting-currencies trick works here, you might be able to buy the 40GB iUbi PMP-2010 at some 259 Euro/USD (or the 100 gigger at 350 Euro/USD). We're pretty sure that some people might have shifted from "OMFG this thing is teh suxx0rz" to "I might buy one, if it'll ever make it to my country".

this has a dual purpose... a PMP and a deadly weapon... heck, you can bash someone's head with the size of this thing.

Pfft, don't knock it until you've tried it. It seems quite interesting to me, as 100GB space is far more important than it looking good to me.

lets make a video pool(youtube) of recordings made on pmp's so that we can see what it makes.
