Mirae Plasma's MP-C100 "Plasma Speaker"

Uuuuh. Ok. It's not a DAP but you can hook one up to it, so that's our lame excuse of the day for publishing something like this. Mirae Plasma has designed a really weird-looking speaker, the MP-C100.

There's a large "window", supposedly composed out of the stuff you'll find in TFT screens (thin film-like material). There's a nice picture of some drowning tree being displayed on this panel, for whatever reason. Maybe the water ripples when you turn on the dang thing? That'd be cool.

Anyway... ehh... just look at the pictures. We'll run into a Korean guy who knows what this is all about, or maybe one of you guys recognizes this thing (or something similar).

is that thin film thing just for aesthetical purposes or do they really do something for the sound?

is that film thing changeable? kinda' lost here...

Looks cool, as in it has a high gadget-factor, but I guess you're better of with one of the other gazillion (cheaper & better) speakers out there.

well if planar speakers, I'd prefer a Martin Logan electrostatic instead of this joke

Lol, I bet it sounds pretty bad. I mean sure, it'll flip and flop around, push air and make sound waves, but a piece of paper wiggling in the wind won't even compare to a normal speaker. (I wouldn't think) I mean speakers have been being made for how long? We've kind of mastered the art... why would they all of a sudden say, "Hey this is better"? I think it's for visual purposes only. I'd be surprised if it sounded half decent. It would be cool to see some psychedelic designs on one of those. Get some reef and one of these bad boys and you'll be entertained for hours...seriously.

well, you didn't even listen to this little speakers. How could u know it is a crap. It may sound bad for now, but who knows? They might make it better and better. However, I think that speaker will lack bass, since I can't think of any mechanism to create bass.

I can see the curve being done for omnidirectional purpose -- albeit not a great one, like you can get full range on the Y axis but the X is still straight ahead. Your average person isn't concerned with whether the sound is good at the ceiling and the floor, but whether it's lush near the walls at either side of the corner you have the speaker in. Who thoughta that??

I can't speak on the quality of film speakers; they are definitely versatile but not exactly audiophile even if they get play in home theatre systems where there are space issues. I can say the tree scene doesn't match my decor.

I wonder how durable that material is... and whether or not humidity or any other kind of factor impacts it poorly but you know... if the water rippled as the music played... that would totally be a buying point for me...

I found this english version of the website with some poor explanation about film speakers which are not really PLASMA speakers. [Linky]

I discovered the "REAL" Plasma speaker after having seen this post. See this website for more information : [Linky] Astonishing, you'll see!
I don't know if it exists other plasma speakers than the tweeters (high frequency)
If someone manage to find normal Plasma speakers (not only tweeters), please post it on this site.

Bye!

Interesting. I'd like to see similar technology used to turn windows and walls into speakers. Nothing hi-fi, just enough to supplement an existing, conventional stereo system.
