Napster has released version 3.5 of their music downloading client. New to this update is improved navigation and ease of use in the software, as well as upgrade in download quality (192 kbps WMA, up from 128 kbps). Their unlimited portable subscription service is still $ 14.95 a month, and $ 9.95 a month for unlimited downloads without the transfer to portable option.

Nice. Still don't approve of DRM, or care for WMA - but glad to see the jump to 192k bitrate. The last 128k WMA I bought sounded like complete garbage.

Yahoo also offered 192k, so they had to make this move. Offering less quality for more money doesn't attract many customers.

unless the customers dont know the difference, no official statistics on that but from my own educated guess based on observations most people who do use such services do not know the difference, or dont really care.

Too little too late I suspect. Yahoo has them beat on price and is quickly catching up on selection.

I was using Napster, but the customer support was awful, and after they totally borked handling a very simple problem I cancelled and signed up for Yahoo at half the cost.

I've been very pleased at the ability of Yahoo to recommend artists/albums that I'd probably like, which is the whole point of the service: to try everything for a low enough price that I don't notice I'm paying.

With Tunebite, they even go onto my iPod as well without paying extra
