The Sony Bean-man, Live in Korea
comment: 4 | Wednesday, November 09 (2005) 04:36PM | Posted by Austin Vaughan

The Sony Bean: an MP3 & ATRAC player with 512mb of memory, FM radio, OLED screen, and a built-in USB plug. At $ 120, it's a bit pricey, but where else are ya gonna get a bean-shaped MP3 player?

Yeah, probably in China, but that's kind of far away.

I think the comments killed themselves.

I never understood why an mp3 player that size only has a one line screen; i'd like to cut one in half just to see all the empty space o_o

Not interested in buying any Sony DAPs, VAIOs, or Walkman phones until they properly addresses that whole rootkit-DRM issue. Nice products, bad company.

You know, I have absolutely no need for a 512MB flash player, and as 512MB flash players go, it's nothing special... but now I sort of want one of those... just because it's all cute and bean-shaped and all. Silly marketing. Actually, now that I think about it... there's got to be a demand for more DAPs that resemble vegetables... there's just got to.

I thought the bean has been out forever? Why a new post?

How can a company with so much experience, so much money etc make so crappy products? It's beyond me.

Seriously, is there any reason at all for buying one of these? I wonder if Sony themselves asked that question before they started producing.

Here at Sony we'd like to invite you to buy our new Sony Bean mp3 player. Then, head over to the cd section of your favorite store and buy cd's from any number of our great Sony BMG artists. When you get home you will want to put all your cool new music onto your even cooler Bean. All you do is place your cd into your PC and...ummm,shoot....nevermind. Our rootkit wont let you do that. Go buy an ipod.

The shape looks perfect ergonomically. The position of the screen especially and the buttons.

We've seen beans before -- kidney bean, namely, from the Rio Sport S30 and S35.

discboy, the rootkit will allow you to do that, but in the process it will open up your system to trojans and viruses. i just saw a news post that the first trojan to exploit the sony drm has been found. yay sony!

Those ladies are staring at the bean's display, and the baby in the photo will have nightmares of beans and bean-shaped products.

But about the Sony DRM, reading on slashdot, some of the bands/performers wouldn't need the DRM, since it'll be kinda rare for anyone wanting to copy the tracks - let alone buying the discs. hehe...
