For those who breathe Portable Multimedia: SK's C&C Air
comment: 19 | Thursday, November 10 (2005) 07:59AM | Posted by Robert Sinke
Wanted to post a little blurb on this yesterday, but couldn't find decent pictures at that moment - so here's PMPinside to help us out. Below this stupid text you can gaze the miracle that is SK's "C&C Air". Mind you, that second "C" is supposed to be spelled backwardly, but I can't memorize the ASCII-code for it right now.

Anyway, what does this thing have to offer? It's another PMP, for one. Bears a strong resemblance to the i-Station v.43 at first sight. Controls look a bit more plasticy somehow.

The Command & Conquer Air Missile 2000 plays MP1/MP2/MP4, DivX/XviD, WMV7/8/9, comes with DMB/GPS support and USB-OTG. There's an AMD Alchemy AU1200 processor in there, the screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and the battery seems to be removable. Capacity? Probably 20 & 30GB - throw another one of these things on the pile.

Noticed on the last pics of the review that CC stands for Communication Code and that the last 'C' there isn't written backwards.

I'm wondering if it would have some PDA-functions since it has a stylus and touchscreen.

kudos, ralphb. And yeah... I don't understand this one either. This is the V.43, right? Maybe just a rebrand.

You sure it's a 4:3 aspect ratio? It looks more like 16:9 to me ...

this looks to be entirely a v43 knockoff, spec by spec.

It's OEM work by Digital Cube/iStation but just to be totally positive, i've emailed them for confirmation.

Ahhhhhhh dont mention c&c... the way westwood was bought by ea was the worse day of my life...(yes Im being overdramatic... and the death of Rio was also pretty tramatic..) I looked at this and thought iStation V43 instantly

body's almost exactly the same except for that little hump at the controller section. V43 does have that. The reset button, little proprietary, stylus, USB/Charging ports, the little vents on the side, everything is right where it is on the V43. Same processor, this is the same thing. Definite rebrand. I wonder why Digital Cube would sell the rights (or w/e) of the V43 to anyone. Maybe they thought they wouldn't be able to sustain an American market under their name? Like Toyota creating Lexus and Scion for consumer aiming techniques. It isn't like DC made SK up or anything, but maybe they figure they could make more money earning a percentage of the profit with another company doing the work. (i.e. English customer service, American headquarter....) I won't lie, I don't know much about this company, but there has to be some advantage over them selling the i-Station line themselves.

ok so lets make it clear that this is actually the iStation V43.
which seems to be a fingerprint magnet by the way, judging by the pictures on the link provided by Galls.

The way these companys work they don't move in to the markets themselves. They always rely on resellers to do the advertising etc in other countries. Often that means rebranding, sometimes it dosn't.

That's a big problem really, because in order to compete properly they need to do it themselfes... because now, Digital Cube + C&C + Reseller wants profit. Oterwise, just Digital Cube + Reseller.
