First Professional Review of the HDD6330
comment: 4 | Wednesday, November 16 (2005) 07:59PM | Posted by chicubs
Even though the Philips HDD6330 has generated a little bit of buzz for its terrific styling, "professionals" havent really been pumping out reviews of this little fella.

ExtremeMhz
lays claim to the crown as the first professional review site to review this player.

A very nice and detailed review. Conclusion:

... As impressive as it is, the HDD6330 does have its fair share of flaws ... I don't have high hopes for additional improvements and/or long term support ... As far as design goes, it is honestly the best I've seen ... Due to its rather poor playback features, it fails to earn my highest recommendation. However, its highly innovative design, ease of use and excellent recording and presentation capabilities earns my recommendation.

Thanks to Bobburn

Excellent review. It covered everything well and even had video clips which is a huge plus. I love the look of this player and the GUI.

Is the battery on this thing user-replaceable?

It's an ok review but he doesn't get into the nitty-gritty of what it can or can't do. Does it have bookmarks? Maybe I should assume it doesn't since he didn't mention it but i'd rather download the manual and see for myself.

Also I don't agree with his sentiment that it doesn't need proprietary software. WindowsXP is proprietary software. This player will not work with Linux or MacOS or anything other than WidowsXP. It may not matter to him but it does to some people.

And 2x5mW output? That's crappy.

Nope, mentioned it somewhere that he found it bad ...

Funny how he mentions the downfall of Olympus, but never mentions that Rio is gone to ...

Love the recording quality !! although radio recorded in mono = damned
Looks to be by far better player then Ipod, but I want a device independent of a pc, why in the name of god do you have to sync with the pc to get the ratings to work :s ...

and there are 2 options for firmware: 1) they don't change anything at all
2) they make it janus compatible, and you're forced to use WMP10 for everything so sad ...

and the proprietary power cable thing + no charging when in dock = bad
(and I know that al biggies do this, but on my PVP it's a normal power thing and standard usb cord -> print usb cable)

Also I want some battery recharging times, and size comparisons ...
anyway I'll buy it if 1)the firmware get's improved in a good way 2) the price=ok 3) it appears on woot

-> says Usb OTG ... so no need of docking station ???

this player keeps getting sweeter and sweeter...
bobburn: where did you buy it + how much $ ?

how long does it take to charge ?

anyone: what's the difference between HDD6320/05 and HDD6330/17 ???
(they're both 30Gb so that's not it)
The first mentions that it has no support for fm in europe ... is that it ?

So, it does support Mass Storage Class via USB ?

I like the folder management style like the Cowon X5.

Hate iTunes metadata type file management.
