Stuff has Visions of M
comment: 50 | Thursday, December 08 (2005) 11:27AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
Stuff Magazine UK has a hands-on preview of the Creative Zen Vision M. Check this:

The Zen Vision should be available by 16th December for $ 349 in the US and “between Ł200 and Ł250” in the UK. So is it worth emailing Santa to change your Xmas list? Maybe. Basically, if you want to use Napster, or you’re keen on the video functionality, or you happen to love FM radio or the sound of your own voice, then go Creative. If, on the other hand, you’re worried about style, thickness and capacity… the iPod video is available now.

Thanks, Adam

Bloody hell. The 16th Dec?!?! Wow. Booking a site visit to Dixons on that day! Definitely need to have a play.
Remarkably quite turnaround from Creative. Slowly... they are learning.

yea... the price is wayy too steep, i'm dissapointed. No removeable battery? :/ If they want to compete against the ipod G5 it must be lower in price.

I've seen somewhere that the battery is replaceable. Also, if you must have this thing, wait about a month, and you'll probably be able to find it for under 300. Most creative players' prices tend to drop soon after their release.

The price here seems wrong. The US site now has it listed at $329. At least I'll likely be able to check this one out in person at Best Buy unlike Cowon or iRiver. Rushing it out before Chrismas is a good idea since Best Buy keeps sending out 10% off coupons (makes the price the same as the iPod).

"loads of entertainment without the load"

who comes up with this stuff?

and it looks like you need the sub-pack to connect to a TV (not sure on that, but the picture has it plugged in though the subpack, and i'm not sure whay you would include that if it wasn't necessary)

I like that idea a lot. That was something I craved for years with Rockbox, but never came to anything.

zip: dont bash insignificant copywriting on a flash website thats not creatives main slogan, this is hardly something you should talk about since u praise steve jobs so much whos the same guy that bashed the karma for having a bad display and then released the shuffle with NO DISPLAY.

Your not one to talk of such things.

The 'removable disk storage' threw me for a loop when I read it. I think it means that this functions as a removable harddrive.

Dec 08 (2005) 01:09PM

Yeah. You need to subpack for TV-Out.
Removable Disk Storage.... I'm guessing they mean UMS device capability. Not.... removable harddrive. Now... that'd be nice

Still can't see anything about removable battery. If it does come out, the only place I can see is via the touch-strip (hence the groove).

This model definitely deserves a look (hopefully Best Buy will get it in next week). The only other features I could ask for are a USB host/camera connection (could be added w/ a firmware update?) and a removable battery. I'd imagine that both of these would be predominately listed if they existed since the marketing pitch is clearly designed to show the differentiators compared to the iPod.

I believe all their players had a removable drive option. Basically its to load files via UMS when in this mode. They aren't playable though.

Something new coming in during the holidays could be really good timing for people looking for a new player and especialy for those who dislike ipods.

The accessories look suspicously like those of the iPod. I guess the creative R&D department is called "The Apple Store."

They do offer bluetooth headphones, for those who are interested, on there listed as companion products.

What's up with the shitty screen quality on the ipod next to the vivid display on the vision:m.

If it's like the other zens, it'll have MTP transfer for playable files (vid/pics/tunes), but with a UMS capability (activated from within the player, before you connect it to your comp) for data or media you don't want to play. If you're running WinXP, MTP plays well with us drag 'n droppers.

ssjmichael: the screen on the ipod is probably far brighter than the creative. it cant be overexposure since both displays would be as white.

not that i have heard of yet, but that would surely give this player a HUGE boost. especially if the videos were in a higher resolution and quality than the itunes videos - but i think at present i'm dreaming of something that would either be expensive right now, or not available for a while.

Come to think of it, as long as it comes with charger and dock, it's a pretty sweet deal even at $330. I love my ipod w/ video 60, but having to charge ti from USB is a pain if u want to turn off your computer.

any idea how much videos will cost and if their library selection is anywhere near itunes'.

i think choosing between the ipod vid and the vision m: will come down to their video subscription support

Geez, put it below $300 atleast.

No one's going to buy this for more than the video iPod, because they'll buy the video iPod instead.

I was going to write that they gotta lower the price or nobody's gonna buy it, but maybe they can't. The 5g iPod is actually a pretty good deal at USD $300, considering its media capabilities, and Creative doesn't have Apple's bankroll. Still, though... it's too much money. Also, undesign? I mostly agree with your points, but bashing Apple like you do is ridiculous. Dumb fanboyism. I know you think "iPoo" is witty and edgy and hilarious, but it's lame. I'm not an iPod fan either but stop writing like an angry 15 year old.

Lol matt, you have to be kidding me. We've been waiting for the original Zen Vision for months, and we still don't have it. This won't show up in stores until well after the holiday season.

The stores around me don't seem to carry PMPs so I don't really expect to see the Zen Vision in a store. Didn't seem like the precursor did too well at the brick and mortar stores that carried it.

Best Buy has a good selection of Creative DAPs so I'm optimistic that this one will show up. I think I remember seeing a Creative kiosk in a local mall.

hooah, follow around undesign some more. especially check out the fact that he bought a sony player. if thats not a steaming pile of hypocracy, i don't know what is. hes all for features and not being locked into anything, and he buys the player that locks him in the most with the least features.

shutup with the sony ordeal already, ive seen you bitch and moan worse than my ex girlfriends on PMS countless times.

Dixons, the future for less...
How come it took Dixons till October to get the Toshiba Gigabeat in when it came out in June? Some future that. Wouldn't bank on Dixons having it on release.

Not normal Dixons. Heathrow DixonsTaxFree. I design WiFi networks for airports. The airside stores tend to get the latest (high profile) players as soon as they're released. I played with the Gigabeat somewhen in Summer.

I agree though.... normal Dixons is toss.
