HDD Dell DJ's discontinued; XM successor due at CES?
comment: 9 | Tuesday, January 03 (2006) 12:33AM | Posted by Lone
Some DAPreview sleuthing has revealed that Dell's current line of HDD Digital Jukeboxes (DJ20, DJ30, and Pocket DJ) have been removed from their official site, leaving only the 512 MB DJ Ditty. Since you can no longer purchase them from Dell, it seems as though the successor is due shortly, most likely during CES later this week. The previously mentioned and rumored Dell DJ XM (pictured right) model seems the most probable announcement. A quick refresher on it's rumored specs:

  • 6 and 30 GB models
  • Color screen
  • Supports XM radio content (recorded from dock)
  • FM Tuner
  • Black and possibly a pink one too

dell seems to have axed the hard drive djs for now. all that shows on the mp3 player site is the ditty in 4 differect packages. the hard drive players can still be found, but it takes some searching.

I've never really cared for Dell's line up of mp3 players, they look very bland and too conservative imo, I wonder if creative is still making them... I do think the whole xm content thing is cool and might bring something somewhat new to the table. A xm reciever would be a lot more appealing though.

i'm not into satellite radio at all. the point of the mp3 player is to have a large collection of your own stuff to access whenever. But if there is a market for this type of player, good for Dell. I just know that i'm not going to pay extra for a feature i don't plan on using.

Any DAPreviewers out there who're into XM/Sirius? Just curious:)

haha, no i was just being arrogant. i didn't submit it and i know you guys can't be watching everything.

i also don't care for satellite radio either, but i think this player looks a lot nicer than the older models.
