Sony NW-A1000/3000 coming to America when "software is ready"

It's pretty much a routine when every Sony DAP comes out; prospective buyers 'ooh' and 'aah' about its awesome, slick design, and then mention something along the lines of, "if only they fixed the dang software, I'd be all over this like butter on bread."

Well, perhaps Sony is actually sorta listening this time. They finally replaced their old Sonicstage jukebox software (known for its futility) with 'Connect player,' but the new software received lukewarm reviews at best. Sony's newest ooh-aah DAPs, the NW-A1000 and 3000, are currently available in Europe and Japan, but according to employees at CES booth, they're not quite ready for release in the U.S.

Finally, I found a booth displaying the NW-A3000 and NW-A1000 with an unspoken promise of release in the United States (”It will be ready when we decide that the software is ready — there are no hardware problems.” one executive said).

It seems as though Sony has heard some of the complaints about its Connect software, and is actually gonna make an effort to fix them prior to the launch of their newest players. Sounds fine by me.

Was way disappointed by this thing. Looked lovely in photos, looked awful close up and was heavy in hand.
Meh.

The A1000 has been available in Canada for a couple months now at almost every sony store, and its also been available at Futureshop for some time now (since best buy owns futureshop, i would imagine they have it too.)

I had it, its really nice.

so they gonna fix their software? what about the users that use sony beta software for month now?

i don't understand what sony was thinking when they designed the a3000, why is it 50 gramms more heavy than the hd5 and why does it use proprietary port again? i think sony was on the right track with the hd5, but to me it seems they lost it...

So the rumors about the UK essentially beta testing Connect are true. Shame on Sony - and this from a Vaio Pocket owner!

What they also need to do besides fix the f'in software (although it works with Sonic Stage 3.3 which is fine ... actually pretty decent) is up the capacity. 20GB just ain't going to cut it anymore.

That was my point. Most "entry level" HDD-based DAPs for $299 are 30GB these days. Just the way it is. 20GB for the same, you better bring the A game (no pun intended). The Vaio Pocket is Sony's only (and now discontinued) DAP besides the limited NW-HD5H (which only came out in Japan and Europe in limited numbers). If Sony isn't releasing the A3000 in the USA until Connect player is "better", they better up the capacity or face more apathy. It's definitely a love-it or hate-it type of player.
