NEC to enter DAP market
comment: 11 | Saturday, February 11 (2006) 07:33AM | Posted by Robert Sinke
It's always good to see more gigantious-extraordinarus companies join the DAP game and supposedly, NEC from Japan is up next. Details are scarce and vague for now, but that's likely to change once the actual NEC-branded DAP will roar its (ugly? little?) head sometime this month. An official announcement will be made next Tuesday.

Of course, it'll prove hard to beat the Japanese mothership (Sony, anyone?) - but then again, companies like Sanyo and Sharp have entered the market not too long ago as well and they're still developing DAPs (not too much cheering going on over the actual results, though).

Didn't these guys also come out with a videogame system a long time ago? I guess I might be thinking of someone else.

Yep a simple google search reveals that in 1988/89 NEC came out with the NEC TurboGrafx-16...

They kinda see to do a little of everything...

NEC sold a lot of stuff in the States during the 1980s, too bad they had invested in Packard Bell though.

Hopefully this goes through, and not screw up like Olympus did.
