CeBIT 2006: Viliv revisited
comment: 11 | Wednesday, March 15 (2006) 05:58AM | Posted by Martinp
Seeing that Rob had checked out Viliv on the first day of CeBIT I had not seen their players yet. On the 6th day we revisited them so I could have a look at their hardware too.

I also had my A2 with me so we shot some comparison pics for you guys and gals. The Viliv P1 is a pretty nice player, but it’s really big. The controls are nice – the touch wheel is pretty good and GUI is nice and has very cool sliding effects. All in all it’s a really cool player.

What we are really looking forward to, is the Viliv P2. Sadly we couldn’t play with it yet, because the hardware is not completely finalized. The 4.3 inch colour screen is looking very good and the design has definitely improved over the P1.

We also had a quick look at the N70 which has a huge 7 inch display. It is basically a PMP, but the main use is as a GPS navigation system. We aren’t too fond of these players that have 7 inch screens, because they are not handy at all. Ever since seeing the Archos AV700 we have bee put off the idea of units with such large screens.

Currently the company is searching for a distributor in Europe and we hope that they managed to pull the right contacts at the CeBIT, because it would be a shame not to see their players doing well.

I love viliv! The P2 looks really good, looking forward to it. I like the clean look without the iPood touch ring thing.

Viliv is going to be big soon in N. America and everywhere else. They actually know what people want, and their designs look pretty good. I don't like the red color in the P1, or the look of the controls (too ipod-like) but the feature-set is very nice. The P2 looks even better.

Is the P2 thick? That could be the only thing to kill it... besides that I very much so like the looks of it...

Ya Allen, I hope it won't be too thick, the P1 was quite slim.

Viliv is a company, like Neuros, that actually makes products with the features people want and use. Hopefully Viliv will catch on with the general public, because I think they are a really great company. Apparantley their N. American eStore opens today at GoViliv.com, but I'm not sure if they will push it back again (it was originally slated to open on March 1st).

Well, depends what you mean by big.
The Viliv is longer than the A2, but also narrower, thinner, and lighter.

The overall volume of the Viliv: 214452 mm3 (cubed)
The overall volume of the A2: 228228 mm3 (cubed)

Weight: Viliv's 230 grams, A2 is 298.

I bought the Viliv after a comprehensive comparison with other units, check it out:
