MobiBLU Cube 2
comment: 23 | Wednesday, April 19 (2006) 08:32AM | Posted by Robert Sinke
It looks pretty much the same as its predecessor, but MobiBLU did change a few details here and there before coughing up the "Cube 2". Looks like there's some sort of semi-vague color OLED screen in there, and the controls section has been changed from an iPodesque-resembling interface to a "cross"-like set of buttons.

Still weighs 18 grams, so it seems. The previous Cube (DAH-1500i) measured 24 x 24 x 24mm; the new one doesn't come off as much bigger... or any smaller, for that matter. Release date was set to "Soon", whatever that might imply.

I like the cube 2 more then the cube.... maybe its the jet black colour, better looking controls, or the colour oled....

Hmm... badly implemented screen. Look at it, it's taken up by that huge play logo thing. They need to change that. Or maybe rockbox for the cube should come out:)

It looks like the construction of the Cube 2's recieved an upgrade as well - the plastic is noticably thicker and more solid-looking, and the back and headphone port appear to actually be metal. Good stuff!

it's a shame they couldn't get the screen size to cover the whole front, & not just a smaller portion in the center.

I like the cube 2's design better, I think. The white interface thingy & headphone jack/lanyard hook thingy made the first incarnation look cheap & plasticky....

these things now come with 1GB & 2GB capacities, right?

post script: looking at the screen one more time, it looks slightly larger than the 1st generation's screen - like the blue area under the yellow playback bar is additional screen area - but it still would've been better if it covered the whole face.

Well, I liked the first Cube. I like this one as well, it seems more... I don't know... stylish. The sleek black sheer curves are great and it looks very good to me. If it comes in 2gb, then even better (although I am doubting it).

Yeah, it's a *tiny* little bit bigger... but to be honest I wouldn't complain about an extra millimetre for chrissakes.

The Cube 2 definitely looks classier than the first Cube. It would be sweet though if they made the screen the size of the whole side.

Telling from the pictures, the construction is better not to mention I prefer the cross controls over the first cube's. The screen on this one just messes it up. The screen on the first cube blended so nicely with the black frame surrounding it. I even bet the text is harder to read than the first cube's.

Cube 2's control setup married with Cube 1's screen style would be better

Cube 3ird time lucky?

If it has at least 20 hours of battery life, I'll buy it.

Hmm... Seems like this has both good and bad things. Overal, it does seem like a more solid player than the first cube. But I like the look of the older cube's controls more. I do know that the older one was a bit difficult to navigate. Thats probably why they had to make the controls ugly. Also, they should have made the entire face a screen.

chicubs, the screen on the cube 2 actually looks a little longer than the cube 1 screen, IMO, unless the cube 1 screen is just not utilizing all the screen's real estate in the above pics.

In the pic of both side by side, the bottom of the cube 1 screen is about even with the yellow playback bar of the cube 2 screen. There's a thin blue strip of screen under the playback bar, however that seems to be displaying some sorta data about....whatever, in black & yellow text. That looks to be a real headache trying to read, tho.

I got a cut down version of the first cube without radio, Ł40 for 1GB from Currys. It's quite cool but isn't much use without OGG support. If I could get a 2GB one of these with OGG support I might be tempted to upgrade.
