Philips SA9x00 - rather slick looks, somewhat skimpy storage capacities

Familiar looks indeed, as the upcoming SA9x00 models were probably inspired by the hdd63x0 (and hdd1xx0) range. This means the new flash-based SA9100 (1GB) and SA9200 (2GB) will have this typical blue-backlit touch strip thingy for a main controller, a color screen that allows photo viewing (and album art, supposedly so), a built-in voice recorder and whatnot. Also included is an FM tuner and PlayForSure compatibility. All of this will run for about 14 hours per battery charge (when playing music, naturally).

The slender-looking SA9x00 series will be available for purchase somewhere around July-September. Prices are $149 for the 1-gigger and $199 for the 2GB version. Hey Philips, why not add a nice little 4GB edition to that line-up while you're at it?

Also, keep in mind that the hdd63x0 was launched just prior to the iPod v5... maybe we can expect a new nano soon enough .

I don't think it's too late yet. The player looks great and is priced well. The only two things I would have liked to see is a longer battery life and as Rob mentioned a 4gb capacity.

This player looks very pretty, much like its predecessors. Unfortunately 1 - 2gb doesn't entice me too much unless it has something outstanding about it, which while it looks good I don't see much else to it. Well, we can wait and see...

Looks great, like all the recent GoGear products. The original firmware brought my GoGear to the level of unusability, but a recent update has made it work very well. Philips also plans to release another firmware update to improve compatibility with WMP 11.

It looks nice... but between the e2xx and nano... I doubt this player will gaim much ground...

is there really a market for any kind of ordinary flash player below 4gb at this point?
I don't know why these companies bother.

If this thing was 4 gigs id be all over it

gogear players are nice, but I feel that their navigation system and controls are inefficient.

Screen's still to small... but the usual good looks apply...

14 hours of battery life is lame. We all know 14 hours means 12 when you have mp3 ripped at normal bitrates (224-320)

Why would I want this when the current 1630 is the same price, has more storage and longer battery life?

One is flash, the other isn't.

Hari Iyer, re: "is there really a market for any kind of ordinary flash player below 4gb at this point?"

I think there will always be a low end market. Today I view 1GB and 2GB as the low end; for some even 1GB is good enough. Serious music fans want more storage, no doubt. But I agree, I don't understand why these vendors aren't releasing a 4GB version right out of the gate.

the player looks really nice, possible better than the nano in my opinion, but along with the clix, capacity is too small.
with a larger image, the screen also seems very poor.
