mobiBLU US2 - The UltraSlim DAP
comment: 23 | Monday, June 26 (2006) 03:23AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
MobiBlu has a new flash-player in the works, the US2, which stands for "UltraSlim-2" (although there never was a US1, as far as we know). And slim it is: this thing is less then 1cm thick, putting its waist-size very close to that of the iPod nano.

• MobuBlu US2: 80mm x 40mm x 7-9mm
• iPod nano: 89mm x 41mm x 7mm

The US2 has clearly borrowed some design elements from the Motorola RAZR, but still, it's easy to appreciate this kind of simple and clean design. Like the RAZR, the US2 is made of plastic and polished aluminum, including a laser-etched control panel.

Features include a a 1.5-inch OLED color screen, support for audio, video, photos, and recording (exact details are unknown at this time), SRS WoW audio processing, and a capacity of 1gb, 2gb, or 4gb of flash memory.

The US2 can be used like a regular MP3 player, or worn around the neck with a lanyard attachment that has built-in earphones. Similiar to the iRiver N10 series or iAudio T2. Our sources over at MobiBLU Korea mentioned a mid-July release.

Very nice, always love aluminum on electronics. I didn't know what was meant by 7-9mm in thickness, until I saw the lump at the top. It's too sudden, and kinda takes away from the player's beauty. Anyway, I'd choose this over the Nano. But that's just me...

The lump looks a little odd but it might keep it anchored at the top of your pocket so it could be useful.

I think it looks too much like a razr phone. In fact, that's probably what most people will think you've got.

LMAO, what a strange thing, to picture the Mobiblu with a half eaten, juicy burger.

This does look very nice but the battery life probably isn't too hot (I'd bet 13-15 hours) and as Dominic said the Razr-like controls are too low profile to be that easy to use.

Does anyone else think it's odd to have a dedicated SRS Wow button? I could see an EQ button, that steps through all the EQ setting, but just SRS?

yeah, razr controls are pretty bothersome, the directional buttons are fine, but that supid select key is impossible to press alone.

i find it strange how they have an srs wow button at the top of the player, i mean im sure theres a more used feature that could be put there instead.

Looks pretty good. obiblu seems to be a company to be reckoned with if they made a decent hard drive player...

They really should put the play/pase button and the srs button somewhere else. Eithe on the side of the player or above the directional pad... Aside from that though the player looks good.

I think it looks really nice. Mobiblu has been doing a pretty good job with their pricing too so this should be a pretty popular item when it comes over here.

I'll say this, the player's got style. Brushed aluminum always looks good, and it looks good forever (no scratches). Who knows, maybe the play/pause button at the top makes more sense. Who adjusts volume or goes to another song then right away pauses the music? Play/pause at the top would make it nice and easy to hit while it's in a pocket and someone starts talking to you.
I most certainly will keep my eye (actually this deserves two eyes) on this.

What was the battery life for their cube player? Hopefully this can beat it?

A color screen + too thin to allow a decent kind of battery = very lame.

B153 with 4GB would be wayyy better than this. Still needs an OGG upgrade, though.

Who’s sporting the STMP-3600 goods? That’s what companies like Mobiblu should be using in their devices.
