GenerationMP3 takes a peek at the Aigo MP-335 & E868

They've brought it to our attention before, and now Greg from genMP3 has some in-depth video video footage on these weird Aigo devices to share with us.

The MP-335 is a white-colored PMP that comes with 30GB worth of storage capacity and it supports MP3, WMA,WAV, MPEG1/2/4, AVI, Divx, Xvid, JPEG, TXT. Runs for about 5 hours (through a removable battery) when playing video while measuring 128 x 78 x 22mm. The MP-335 runs on a linux-based platform; supposedly, it'll cost about 400 Euros in the end. Stuff like USB-Host, a widescreen (480 x 272px) TFT LCD, video recording and line-in encoding aint too bad either. We have to say that the demo model we saw at CeBIT was very... plastic-like, but well - that's how things go.

As for the E686: that's the successor to the E858. Equipped with an SD slot and capable of playing MP3/WMA/OGG/MPEG4/AVI (DivX)/VOB/DAT/MPG/MPEG/TXT/JPEG, it's quite the busy little bugger. too bad the battery life per charge is a mere 5 hours for audio (3.5 hours for video).

I like the looks and size of the 868, and the memory card slot. Any chance of being available in the States?

Aigo is a puzzling company to me; I don't really see the magic, yet the company seems to have a very high opinion of their own products and prices them accordingly. Their shops and stalls are ubiquitous in China and they are trying (or have tried) to get a foot in every door of the cosumer electronics business: computer & portable loudspeakers, computer monitors & cases, digital cameras, MP3 and PMP's, portable DVD players, the list goes on. True, within China, they are one of the best known brands, but they seem to be leveraging that a bit too much and stretching their capabilities.

Check the video and interview that I made of this product in its status at the CeBIT in March: [Linky]

Mele seems to be the company that builds this for Aigo.
