Military-Grade protection for your DAP collection
comment: 51 | Thursday, August 03 (2006) 03:23PM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
When you're out on the battlefield, the last thing you need to worry about is whether your DAP is going to get hit by a random piece of shrapnel. But you can't put your trust in a case made of plastic or leather, now can you? Certainly not. Fortunately, a new solution is on the market - one that will put your mind at ease. These new cases from YoTank.com are milled from solid blocks of alluminum, providing an 85% survivability rate against a near-hit from the typical RPG or mortar shell.

Even if you don't make it... at least, the player and the music will live on.

Available now with prices ranging from $35 to $75.

possibly the most assinine protection ever. Milled aluminum? Lol... I would get one though... How much does each weight, and the size increase must be appreciable as well..

WTF!

Not at the brutish look of the cases, but at their failure to include an X5 case in their line-up.

The only case I find even slightly appealing in a combination of aesthetics and functionality would be the ZenTank.

Hey, the soldiers in Iraq are right in the demograhic for ipods and mp3 players 18-25. Who knows, maybe it'll save a life or two. Look ma! My ipod took a lickin' but I'm still tickin thanks to my ipod tank!

A case that was shock resistant would be much more useful. Dropping this onto a hard surface should produce about the same results as without the case, at least for hard drive players.

The folks I know who went to Iraq were carrying Karmas.

You'll notice that the case may be able to take flak, but the screen is still as scratchable as ever.

This kind of reminds me of the Altoids cases I use to see people post for the Zen Micros and Carbons, and the Altoid case was only two dollars.

true the screen protector is lexan, the stuff the super strong water bottles are made up of... really scratch resistant... LOL an YoTank case for the A2 would definetely be like carring around a brick LOL but the A2 isn't as big as you think in real life.

its also a new way to deter ipod theft. next time someone starts to go after your ipod, just start beating them over the head.

Those circles for the tactile buttons on the ZVM dont look large enough for my giant sized fngers. Maybe it's just the angle.

i like where this discussion is going: 'Ultimate Anti-Theft iPod Case'

it should also come with a handle (removable of course) so that when your beating someone you can keep your hands blood-free and out of harms way.

Speaking of school... seriously... looking at the website (and the rubbish quality of the actual "cases" themselves), I reckon this is a school kids' project.

I've definitely seen heftier and better made heavy duty aluminium cases before.

As for a weapon... i'd rather keep my DAP nice and small in my pocket and have a frickin great big machete in my jacket.

These guys should be looking to REPLACE the original plastic case, and not just encompass it. I think if you actually opened the DAP up, and swapped out the internals, you might get some more people interested in the product.

If they made an iRiver H320 full metal case that I could swap with the stock plastic one, I might buy one... I don't think it'd be too much larger than the original product if manufactured correctly, and if they fitted everything on the inside just right, it could work out quite nice... I'd like to see the kind of longevity a case like that could provide for my DAP, and who cares about scratches on something that already looks that fugly? (If you could manage to scratch it...) Plus, can anyone say custom paint job? I see a future for the business.

Is YoTank traded publicly? If so I'm gonna invest big in them. Just look at how many of us draft age people own daps. YoTank Is gonna be rich in a few months/years when we all get called to duty. We'll be ordering these for our daps like hot cakes.

Powder coating one of these beauties would be the thing to do.. black or your favorite color... it'd still be impractical but it would be gorgeous....

Like Utew said, these need powder coating.

Add a couple weaver rails on the side and bam, it's a tactical DAP.

i cant wait till someone makes a dap out of these materials, then it would already be a tank without the case. if i had a chance to do this, and i wasnt afraid of wrecking my player, i would make a new shell for my dap.

steve, this is my suggestion for your next case mod.

I'd like to but even 'home' cnc milling machines can cost $1500-$2000 easy. Not very likely. But IF I had one i'd replace the case like you and khbaur said and make it out of hardwood not aluminum.

Any case company with a RPG around to test their claims of being able to survive a near-hit from an RPG must be serious.

That with an outrageously thick headphone cord and some thing to lock the cord onto the case - then you've got a decent weapon, although the player would have some damage anyway.
