iriver D25 due out later this month
comment: 22 | Wednesday, August 23 (2006) 12:49PM | Posted by Lone
There was a bit of info on iriver's "next-gen" dictionary a while back, and now Popco.net has the scoop. The D25 is at its heart, a portable dictionary, but of course knowing iriver you knew there'd be more packed in there, because quite frankly, sometimes a dictionary just ain't enough.

  • 4.3", 260K color LCD
  • 1.3 GB flash memory, SD/MMC slot
  • MP3 playback, FM radio, Voice recorder
  • Games, Image viewing, e-book functionality, Text-to-speech
  • 16 hours of battery life (using the dictionary function?)
  • Dimensions:135 ×94.3 ×19.7mm

Release date in Korea is set for August 28th (I guess that's next week already, geez this summer went by fast).

Semi-via Misticriver (Thanks, designfabulous)

....i donno, looks like a mini laptop. of course it will cost a fraction of an OQO, id rather put my moneys worth on the OQO than a dictionary/mp3 player and get a fully working portable computer.

Most, actualy every student in Korea owns an electroinic dictionary. The D20 has been quite popular. The electronic dictionary market is expanding and I predict that the D25 will do pretty well.

I want this.... I'm still stuck with a crapy D10...

I must admit that before I had my own computer I owned a little electronic dictionary for handwriting papers (I think it was made by Franklin). 'Twas very useful for the thesaurus especially, much quicker than grabbing a paper copy and thumbing through dozens of pages. Of course now I have dictionary.com bookmarked on my toolbar and it takes all of two seconds to get that info.

I was going to post this later today

When the thing is closed it looks like an overgrown DS Lite. I can't believe reigncom said they're shifting towards these types of products. Is there really that much of a market for them?

You took the words out of my mouth michael, the swivel part with the two lights in the middle is especially DS Lite esque (which, by the way, is an awesome device).

Yeah I can account for these items being big sellers. Everytime I was in the library in college I would always see the Asian student have these cool little dictonaries that translate words, and could speak them too. I dunno what else their items could do but I know it did those for sure.

Design, you know what's funny about your last comment? You were the one that was saying the N20 was not even coming out because iriver wasn't making DAP's anymore. How things have changed.

Just look at what you wrote here:

This is complete rubish.... These sketches are fake. iriver is not producing anymore DAP's. They are making PMPs now.

to be exact, I heard that they're focusing on Flash DAPs and gaming devices. They're drop their hdd daps.

Yes, how things have changed... I believe it was Cnet that said that iriver was never going to produce DAP's. iriver actually said that they were not going to focus on DAP's. But iriver has been rolling out all these DAP's lately. Ever since iriver has moved to the earlyadopter design team, their future is very clouded.
