The Meizu M6 gets ripped - don't you love it?

Meizu's latest and hottest player, their M6 aka the "Miniplayer", just got ripped by another Chinese company. This is quite ironic really for a company that originally started out by ripping off the Cowon iAudio CW300 and calling it the Meizu MX.

The ripped version looks pretty well exactly identical to the original, except for the fact that it has a sort of key ring thing on the right hand side. There are quite a few technichal differences though. The copy is only available in 256MB/512MB/1GB & 2GB for starters. The screen on the "new miniplayer" is also a lot smaller. It only has a 2 inches and a resolution of 220x176 vs. 320x240 on the original.

The Zino 810 even managed to make the already very small mini player even smaller. The dimensions measure 74x48mmx9.3mm @ 40g vs 79x48.2x10mm @ 55g. Amazing. Really.

I always new that something like this was going to happen some day. And now here we are!

Cute. According to Meizu there's more than one company in China flattering them with imitation. They said if it gets out of hand they'll take legal action.

Also Meizu is reportedly working on a capacity boost beyond 4gigs. If they get the mp3 stuff sorted out i'll probably buy one.

i'm not strict blamer to those "copier" (every product got some kind of copying in its design), but please improve from the original! this ripped version seems just push-button design...

How do they get away with this? At least make the screen larger

The real M6 by most accounts is a well-designed, quality player. I don't think it's this companies intention to improve on it or make a valuable contribution to the state of the art. My guess is they're trying to make a quick buck by riding the wave of attention and reputation of the real thing, while saving money by using lower spec parts all around, with maybe the only advantage to the end user being a cheaper price but more than offset by far poorer performance.
