Cowon announces the iAudio F2
comment: 34 | Monday, September 18 (2006) 06:03AM | Posted by Martinp
The iAudio F2 has just been released and it's a nice surprise for all of us. In comparison to the iAudio F1, the F2 takes a far more sophisticated design approach and also offers a larger amount of features.

At a first look the design reminds me a little of the LG Chocolate.

We have all gotten used to the massive codec support on Cowon players, and the F2 is no different. The device supports WMA (with DRM 10), MP3, OGG (up to Q10) and FLAC (levels 0-8). The unit also offers limited video playback functionality in up to 15 FPS. The F2 can also display JPEG images and text files. You can see all this stuff on the player's 1.3 inch screen, that has a resolution of 160x128.

The new iAudio will be available in capacities from 512 MB to 2 GB. The capacity is a little meager, especially seeing that the new iPod Nano comes in up to 8GB. The battery life is rated at 22 hours which is pretty good if you ask me. The player also includes and FM Radio, FM Radio recording and an integrated microphone for voice recording.

We have gotten used to BBE on all new iAudio models. The s/n ratio is 95 dB and the player supports both UMS and MTP. The output power is rated as 30+30 mW with 16 Ohm headphones (this will seriously blast your eardrums). All this stuff can be found in a tiny package weighing 39 grams and a size of 34.8 x 72.9 x 16.7mm.

It's like a hybrid of the iAudio 6 and a mobile phone. Seems rather weird to "disguise" a DAP as a mobile phone. One thing that annoys me about mobiles is their key arrangement.

It does look pretty though.

I like that first picture that has the usul "ooh-ahhs" of a bright screen glowing in the dark.

The player looks nice, but the capacity isn't that great compared to what's out. Cowon needs to start putting out some 4gb+ flash players. The battery life is nice though.

*phew*
I thought it didn't have Line-In Recording for a bit there!
Very pretty, I could see it appealing to the fashion conscious kidlets that potter about here.

I like where Cowon is going with their design, much better than iRiver back in the day when they had some street cred. Too bad Cowon doesn't catch up with the capacity of the other brands. The i6 was also a disappointment storage wise. Cowon Hire me!!! Ill make sure You beat Apple and the others!!!

In some couple of months the iAUDIO X5 will be 2 years old!!!

Looks nice. I'd like it at a larger size. Is the USB flip-out or a plug-in attachment?

Some of the iPod Nano's crap (color LCD, poor battery life), yet neither of its two advantages (4+GB flash and aluminum case). Where's the improvement here over previous Cowon stuff?

If you look it as just a mere upgrade to the F1 it's substantial. It's a line of players that isn't supposed to be their most prestigious.

One thing it shows me is Cowon is still alive and working on stuff. Come January I'm sure we are going to see the A3, X6 and U4. Well at least one of those

Ya... i knew Cowon was working on something... but i just hoped it was something bigger like an X6 or something... not the A3 cause i still want my A2 to be the newest Cowon PMP LOL

Wow, that's pretty small. I'm sure it will have a good result in the Korean market. Looks really sleek but the 2GB capacity won't satisfy me....

poor battery life imo by todays standards.

they should never have scrapped the G5 (successor to the G3 but color screen w/ video), if they had made that in 2/4/8gb flash memory form, id be all over it.
