The Samsung YP-K5 Gets Driven Over
comment: 25 | Tuesday, September 19 (2006) 06:27AM | Posted by Michael
We've been giving the newly released YP-K5 a healthy dose of airtime lately. Needless to say we're quite fond of this player from Samsung, and will most likely be doing a review of it in the near future. One of the most appealing aspects of this player is it's design. The front of the player is covered with a sexy glossy surface, and the pull-out speakers have a nice mirrored finish. Those aren't the most durable/scratch-resistant surfaces however. While browsing through the brilliance that is YouTube, I came across a video of the K5 being run over. Now we've reported on players being run over by cars in the past, but this time it's getting run over by a truck.

The player actually plays music the whole time, through its built-in speakers and appears to come out unscathed; very impressive. Don't be spoiled by this video however, there's no way we're replicating these sort of durability tests.

Not a bad test. Looks like it was run over by a Hyundai SUV (wheel badge).

good to know that if you ever get hit by a car while listening to the YP-K5, at least the YP-K5 will be ok.

That's pretty good, especially considering the speaker tilts up so the two parts are at different angles, making them more susceptible to breakage.

Ehhhh.. think I'll pass on the torture test for my K5.
Just picked up one today and it really is a neat little player.

Touch screen/controls work great and it's completely intuitive.. decent sound from the speakers, with the expected lack of bass. Sound from headphones is excellent. Nice screen for it's size with a simple GUI and not a lot of options/ information, but the animation is the kicker. Very nice little unit..

I want one but they are quite expensive. Going to wait and hope it comes down a bit now the nano has lowered price per GB of flash I'm hoping others will follow but it looks very cool.

I spotted an ad at my school, they market it as if it's their TV's!

Also, I tried it out in a shop, it's amazingly clever. Then again, I like anything that slides automaticaly...:P I love the way it all functions!

Yeah, somehow I don't think anyone than Samsung could be stupid enough to do that to their brand new and expensive dap. For Samsung this is great advertisement though, and I doubt anyone would replicate the test to go sure it will work. Samsung could have built a special very strong version e.g.
