Ainol V1000 with NES emulation
comment: 10 | Monday, October 16 (2006) 04:54PM | Posted by Lone
Speaking of game-playing PMPs, another one popped up today, courtesy of IMP3.

Said unit is the slick-looking V1000 from Ainol, and in addition to AVI and MP4 video support (at 30 frames-per-second), the device seems capable of playing NES, SNES/SFC, and SMS ROMs on the go. Don't care about classic games and video? Ainol's player does MP3, WMA, and FLAC audio. Unfortunately, 512 MB and 1 GB are the only listed capacities, though the built-in SD slot sort of remedies the issue. At least the display seems good enough: 2.5" with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (identical to the Creative Zen Vision:M in those stats).

Important stuff like rated battery life is unavailable at this point; Ainol doesn't even have the V1000 product page up yet.

Even these cheapo Asian DAPs are playing FLAC, why can't the other big time companies support it? I like the design, it'd be cool if the wheel stuck out a little bit and you could use it as a control wheel...

pretty innovative, the design allows the player to be used horizontally and vertically, in both cases it wouldn't LOOK out of place either.

I was gonna say that until I read the first two posts. Ah, what the heck: Is that pronounced "anal"?

Yes, it would. That's why they put them on top of each other instead.

Kinda cool though.

Why these players all seem to play FLAC but not Ogg Vorbis? Still looks interesting though.

Well then, lemme burst your collective anal bubbles.
The thing is most probably called AYE-EE-NOL or A-EE-NOL.
(as in "Hey, we golf")

Though it still sounds like ANAL bwahahahahahaha!!!

Cool thingy. I like that ability to play FC/NES, SFC/SNES, & SMS ROMs on the device. I could load severeal hundred or thousand ROMs on a single flash card and play plenty of classics.

How much does it cost & how long is the battery life?
