TrekStor Vibez official press release
comment: 37 | Friday, November 17 (2006) 01:15PM | Posted by Lone

Ah, yes, the TrekStor Vibez. The microdrive DAP with promises of OGG and FLAC playback, an easily replaceable battery, a "Rio-like" graphical interface, and a crazy design is now officially available in Europe, according to a press release from German-based TrekStor.

The announcement states that the 8 and 12 GB models are available, while the 15 GB version is coming during the 2nd quarter of 2007, along with additional accessories (a wired remote control, docking station with battery charger and infra-red remote control, and replaceable battery are apparently available at this time, no mention of what the future holds).

Unfortunately for us in the States the Vibez isn't available just yet on our favorite web shops or brick-and-morter stores, though it's only a matter of time. Plus, I suppose if you really can't wait you could always camp out for one.

"Hey, you campin' out for a PS3?"

"Heck no, I'm all about the TrekStor Vibez man."

"What, what, what?"

Press Release (Thanks, Seskoi)

Dominic, I can't think of a single reason to believe it wouldn't be gapless. I just read through the instruction manual, and it's all Rio Karma with slightly different terminology. Hell, they even preserved the different RioDJ options (Entertain Me, Forgotten Gems, Deja Vu, etc.). Add the fact that it crossfades, c'mon, it's gotta be.

As always, I await confirmation either way.

Yeah, I think it was nudel got an email purportedly from Trekstor tech support saying the Vibez is not gapless. I just don't have a lot of faith in that statement given all the evidence so far.

A month or so ago I emailed them asking if there will still be a 15 GB version after they had changed the 15 to 12 on their web site. Their response was something to the effect of, "Our web site says it will come in 8 GB and 12 GB capacities. Thank you for choosing Trekstor."

ok, let me get this straight.

microdrives are available in up to 12 Gig capacities. that explains the 8 and 12 gig capacities.

what HD are they going to use for the 15 GIGer. vapourware guys, vapourware.

timmins, I agree 100% My big fear about the wait for the 15 Gigger (supposedly due in Q2 '07) is that it may turn into the wait for the Karma2/Chroma that never happened.

To me it feels like a catch 22. I feel like it's better to wait for the 15 gigger for the added space, but if the 8 & 12 GB versions don't sell well, the 15 GB might never happen.

That might be reason enough to go ahead and get the 12 GB. Then again I keep changing my mind every other day, so who knows.

unless a 15 GIg microdrive is released, it simply won't happen. It wouldn't be feasable otherwise.

While it has the bodyshape of a fetus (or an evil overweight dwarf), and I wonder about its scratch-resistance, the storage size, removable-battery fact, ogg support, and non-reliance upon a screen like a giant mangaish eye are good things in Malloc's tome.

Edit. And 'Vibez'? That's a nice gangsta name? :/
Edit2. 'Hips don't lie'? What the hell is that supposed to mean? 'NO WOMAN! YOU WILL BE GOOD CHILD-BEARER; END OF THIS DISCUSSION!'

Somebody's a big fan of latin pop music. Check the screen shots in the user manual and you'll see a lot of Shakira tunes and at least one Gustavo Cerati of Soda Stereo fame. Kinda odd for a German manufacturer, no?

Then of course there's the obvious reference to the Vibez' female-form inspired shape.

Malloc: Hips don't lie... ask Shakira about that (yes it's an actual song)

As for the esthetics, well whatever. I mean it's good to see that somebody tries to think 'out of the box' for once and doesn't blindly copy the iPod once again.

As soon as I can get my hands on one of these I'll get one

Ok, I was seeing things a couple days ago, no way I'm seeing things now. Looks like Amazon really does have the 8 GB Vibez in stock now:

"Availability: Usually ships within 1 to 2 weeks. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. "

Still no joy at J&R.

I am in Cork, I am from Sweden
And I generally stay away from radios, and don't visit clubs. If it's something I love about this country it's the pubs. No dancefloor, no dance music, just goood beer!

Ah, I never heard of it 'til I saw the screen shots of the Vibez. I guess that's to be expected of a 34 year old suburbanite father of 2.

I'm not a really big Shakira fan, though I understand the appeal.

My Karma died this week, and as if by magic (or is it karma?) - this one appears!

It's bigger, uglier and has less capacity than my Rio - still, that's progress for you.

Says it's available, but i can't find it on any UK-centric online shop.

Has anyone else?
