Cowon D2 Now Official
comment: 24 | Tuesday, November 21 (2006) 04:22PM | Posted by Michael
Cowon has been sleeping for most of the year, but lately they've woken up and have announced a couple of new players including the iAudio F2, Cowon D1, and the D2. The Cowon D2 is similar to the aforementioned i-Station mini, not only in features, but also in appearance (color-wise at least). Here's what this player's got to offer against the Mini:

  • 2.5 inch LCD (320 x 240)
  • 1-4GB
  • Playback 45 hours (MP3), DMB 8 hours.
  • Built-in DMB (For Korean market)
  • SD Card slot for SD&MMC
  • Supports various files WMV9, MPEG4 (Movie), MP3, Ogg, WMA, FLAC (Music)
  • 94mW output (47mW+47mw)
  • 30 frame QVGA movie playback and TV-Out support
  • Touch interface by transparent overlay GUI.
  • FM Radio, Radio record, Voice/Line-in Record

45 hours of battery life is definitely an attractive number. Korea will get first dibs on this player later this month, and hopefully Cowon will have plans to release a DMB-less version to us drooling folks here in N. America and other places around the world.

That is proberly just a mistake, There is no way they would put a 1gb hardrive in there that wouldnt make sense. Any news on whether this can take 8gb sd cards

I swear that this thing is flash memory. HDD is just crazy. But it could be the 0.85 inch HDDs that they used in the iaudio 6.

I'm confused

Wait. Yeh they wouldn't out a 1GB HDD in there. Thats even crazier

I love the looks of this thing! The internal DMB antena is so nice and it is filled with features. I would replace my U10 with this when I have the chance, looks nice.

I wish it would come in 8GB... I guess the SD expansion bay can forgive that.

I actually kinda don't like the design. Unless it's got a slick GUI, I'm not really sold on it yet.

can you get 8gb sd cards?

or is it only the SDHC format that supports it?

The new SDHC-Standard and the older SD-Standard are not compatible to each other.

As far as I know, devices are only able to support:

1) older SD-Cards with capacities up to 4GB (no SDHC-Support)
OR
2) older SD-Cards with capacities up to 2GB AND SDHC-Cards with capacities up to 8GB (Class 2 & Class 6)

For example:
My new Digital Camera (Panasonic LX2) accepts all older SD-Cards up to 2GB. But my old 4GB SD-Card doesn't work anymore. I'll have to buy a SDHC-Card for capacities beyond 2GB. Grrrrr!!! Curse the industry!!!

BTW: COWON seems to be on the right track again - now release the same device with a 3,5" screen and 60GB HDD and I'm a Cowon-Customer (again)!!!

in the iAudiophile forum, the D2 discussion board is listed under "flash players". Maybe they know something we don't!

^ What's so ugly about the logo? And it is better than the many 512mb/ 1GB / 2GB generic crap out there.
