damn only if it was a little smaller I would have picked one up as a gift. My sister said she wants a video player but I rather not spend the 250+ tax for the iPod and use that money towards other gifts.

Why is that bad? It will likely mean improvements over the Zen Vision: M.

Man I hope they don't called it the ZVM2. A followup is definitely coming and it will be officially unveiled to the public at CES 2007. Creative may announce it sometime in December though.

It will have X-Fi built in and I'm guessing it will be called Zen Vision X (ZVX).

I'm predicting

-3" screen
-Slightly thinner
-Scratch resistant surface and solid color body (i.e. not two tone)
-Same connector as the ZVM
-A nice bump in battery life
-30 and 80GB sizes at launch

I'm hoping but not optimistic about:

-AC3 and H.264 support
-Gapless playback
-Dual MSC/MTP system
-Line-in recording

edit: I forgot to mention, it will likely have that Sigmatel chip inside so that's exciting too

pure speculation, but i'm pretty sure they'll have something like a new, improved version of the ZVM to show at CES (January). they certainly should if they want to stay competitive. the iPod is due for a refresh anytime now - probably at MacWorld, which is right after CES. not a good time to be slack.

You don't mean that Sigmatel chip, do you? Well, that could be good if they can manage not to cut off its private parts.

Add this, along with the Sigmatel chip (Rio-Trekster anyone), and I would say this would a must purchase.
I'm holding off buying anything (this is why I'm holding off on the Trekstor) to see what is coming.

i keep hoping they'll come out with a Nomad Jukebox 4, with high-end components and recording features. the NJB3 was awesome back in the day, and seemed fairly popular... not sure why they gave up on it

but i'll settle for a ZVM2. i suspect they're going to put some kind of "X-Fi" component into the signal path so they can market it as having superior sound quality. like a built-in "Crystallizer" as they call it. not a bad idea for the common folk as long as they give the rest of us some way to turn it off.

improvements it should have, IMO:
+ bigger screen, with better horizontal viewing angles (possible)
+ animated GUI (likely)
+ greater emphasis on album art (possible)
+ gapless playback (iffy)
+ support for OGG, FLAC, and AC3 (doubtful)
+ support for AAC and H.264 (possible)
+ thinner, lighter design (likely)
+ more scratch-resistant build materials (likely)
+ built-in mini-USB port (iffy)
+ IR port for wireless remote (doubtful)

Yes that one Steve. Also it's not just speculation, GenerationMP3 mentioned on two occasions that a followup is coming. Once from a March 30th meeting, where we all learned of an upcoming X-Fi player, and just a couple months ago, Creative mentioned it will be officially announced at CES 2007.

I think X-Fi is almost a sure thing. Not sure about FLAC and OGG though... it seems like large companies don't like open source codecs for some reason. A 3'' screen seems reasonable, a good balance for audio and video. Gapless is a 50/50 thing just cause Apple did it. Hopefully they will try to improve on the size as it seems to be a big factor for alot of people, although i like the thickness of it. They will probably add a scratch resistant surface just like the one on the Zen V.

I think alot of things will happen at CES 2007. Hopefully Cowon will release whatever they have been working with all these silent months. They are about due for a release of some kind. Hopefully an A3 (if not before Christmas) or an X6 to compete with the ZVX. Creative will probably release something as well like the ZVX. Apple might or might not release they're widely hyped Touchscreen iPod and finally go into the PMP industry (a good or bad thing?). This makes me REALLY want to go to CES 2007.
