Samsung YP-K3 Coming Soon
comment: 27 | Wednesday, November 29 (2006) 03:30AM | Posted by Michael
The Samsung YP-K5 is one of the coolest players that I've had the pleasure of using (lookout for my review of it soon), but one of the biggest complaints was surprisingly the feature that made it unique, it's built-in speaker. The speaker is very nice, but it does add quite a bit of thickness to the K5. Many like myself would love to see a player like the K5 but without speakers. Well it seems like Samsung was listening as they will be doing just that with the YP-K3.

The YP-K3 will make it's debut at CES 2007 in January. We at DAPreview found out about this player about 2 weeks ago but weren't planning on discussing it until we knew more about it. Since other sites have let the cat out the bag, I figure we might as well share it with you as well. The picture and little info that we have on the K3 comes straight from the Official CES site.

As you can see the details are very sparse at the moment, but it likely has the same features as the K5. I personally would like to see some improvements, such as album art support, and some OTG playlisting capabilities. We'll of course have plenty more to say about the K3 when we report on it in person at CES 2007 in January.

Hmmm, just ordered a T9, I think that looks a little sleaker. I may eventually pick up a low capacity K3 (1gB) to take out to he park and away places but only if the price goes down over time. This looks pretty cool as well though and with all of them having OGG support I'm fast becoming a big fan of Samsung players.

I like the looks of this player, but the screen looks like it could've been bigger. Engadget says it's a 1.8" screen, then this is going to be a larger flash DAP than the Sansa and nano.

heh, noticed the item near the bottom of the page for the Toshiba Gigabeat S. Toshiba's going to present it again this year? Maybe they'll pretend that the past year just didn't happen......

Very nice! Now Samsung just has to get in the high capacity HD market. They now have three competing, but somewhat similar designs Z5, T9 and K3. I think all three look great, but they are all going after the same consumer with a very similar feature set. I hope they work on a big hard drive containing DAP/PMP or PMP next.

Great looks, great size, but the lack of tactile controls means it's a "no-no" for me.

Never really liked these touch surface DAPs but after playing with the YP-K5 my mind has changed. Very responsive and it help that a it made a "click" sound when you press the nav arrows.

Does this one take 5 hours to transfer a 1 MB file like the T9 does? The T9 takes 10 minutes to transfer 583 MB of files while the Z5 only takes 3 minutes. Samsung says the T9 is supposed to work that way (ie we are too lazy to fix it) so just wondering if they screwed this one up too.
