Next from Meizu - MusicCard (M3)
comment: 17 | Tuesday, December 05 (2006) 09:04PM | Posted by Lone
From the looks of things, the folks at Meizu are prepping a new flash player to compete with the iPod nano and others, one which they'll call the MusicCard (or M3 for short).

The product name offers a bit of a clue into what Meizu's designers were going for: a card-shaped/sized device. The MusicCard is just 6.9 mm thick, putting its waistline on par with that of Apple's iPod nano (6 mm depth), and it's 1.5" display (with 176x132 px resolution) is the exact same size. The lone image we've seen so far doesn't show us the MusicCard's controls, but the translation mentions a touch-strip with 3 buttons.

What else does Meizu's site list as this point? Well, battery life is a rated 20 hours, same as the M6 (which averaged around 16-17 hours in our testing). Codec support is still excellent, with FLAC and Ogg Vorbis support, along with MP3 and WMA, we presume. Capacities one up the M6's, with 2, 4, and 8 GB models featured in the article. In addition, there's said to be some "audio circuit optimization", making the sound field "even broader", with "more transparent timbre." Err, okay. If it sounds anywhere near as fantastic as the M6 did I think we'll be alright.

the M6 was a pretty bad rip-off, this thing is just blatant. The funny thing is that, this thing will be superior to the nano in many ways.

Yeah, I'm not likin' the direction this seems to be heading. This isn't the same as the supposed follw-up to the M6, right? As in the M6's succesor.

This isn't the M6s successor. They released a list a while ago of what's to come:

1. M6 SP (Special Edition)
2. M6 Deluxe
3. M3
4. M2
5. M7
6. M8

With a M6 SR (8Gb version) somewhere in between. We've had the first 2 already so after this we've got the M2, 7 and 8 to come with the M8 looking to be the M6 successor.

Yep from what we're seeing in terms of sizing it's looking a lot like the nano but to be honest I expected them to do something like that. I mean the M6 looks a lot like an iPod and it really put Meizu on the map. Why change the rip-off trend now?

It's to bad Meizu can't copy better, would be so nice if they could keep on following iPod and do aluminium as well!

Has Apple filed any kind of lawsuit against them? If not, this might take them one step closer.

I couldn't care less tho. This DAP ain't the movie-watching type anyway and I ain't the movie-watching type either.
If it does OGG and has stong output and sound quality it's perfect for me.

I'm in the market for a really, really small OGG-capable DAP to hang around my neck.
Preferably nothing bigger than a Creative Zen Nano+.

Mikc, have you looked into the iriver s10 and the cowon iaudio t2? both necklace style, smaller than the nano+, and ogg capable.
