A Glimpse at the iriver U20 and W10
comment: 20 | Thursday, January 04 (2007) 02:56PM | Posted by Michael
Today has been a busy news day for us and I've saved the best for last. I'm happy to share with you the first pictures of iriver's upcoming players. These two players and plenty others are said to be shown at this years CES, and I truly can't wait

iriver U20

As the name indicates, this is the follow-up to the U10. It really should be called Clix 2.0 though since the interface resembles that version more. Although this is just a conceptual image, I'm drooling over the design. The iriver clix was the best flash player of 2006 in my book. It had few flaws but some included it's lack of larger capacities and it's bigger than average size. These problems seem to be fixed in this upcoming player though, which looks quite thin and said to come in capacities upwards of 8GB's.

Specs (rumored)

  • 2GB, 4GB and 8GB
  • 2.2" AMOLED display
  • D-Click Navigation
  • FM Radio and Flash
  • Video @ 30fps

iriver W10

Very little is known about this player but it seems to be more of a GPS type of device that might be closer to the Cowon N2 in function. It reminds me oh so little of the iriver V10, which was revealed a year ago at CES '06.

We'll learn a good deal more about these two players and others from iriver in just a few more days. Till then you'll just have to do what we're doing and scour the net for more pictures and information, or you know just sit there and wait for us to do all the hard work.

AMOLED? what is the AM for?

I like the U20 but I still find that 8gig is not enough. I may consider a flash player if it comes with 13gigs or more.

LOL i submitted this too!! LOL the Clix 2 looks awesome... definitely a candidate for my next DAP. Hopefully it won't be super expensive like the U10.

didnt it could be done, but they beat the original u10/clix design. 8 gigs is also quite respectable.

only problem is i except it to be somewhat pricey 2, 4, 8 for $220, $250, $280 is gonna be my guess.

Great, yet another option for my next DAP. A year pretty much to the day i've gone now without getting a new DAP (for myself), it's time for something new from the ZVM. The X-Fi player will probably be top of the list (if it has at least ZVM functionality) at the mo, got the Miniplayer 2, the D2 and now the U20 as well. What to choose, what to choose.

Yeah there is some confusion over whether it will be 6 or 8. Im just going with what Jeff at Mistic River is predicting for now. To me an 8GB capacity would be more competitive than a 6GB but we will find out soon enough.

Damn, that U20 looks pretty sweet... I'd better start saving up money, so many good things are coming this year...

According to this: [Linky] picture, it says that the W10 supports Wibro. Maybe the W10 is the gaming device that iriver called the "wing".

There is alot of good info on Akihabara news. According to them, iriver will show of 12 devices at CES. There are probabily going to show off even more devices.

The W10 is supposed to have VOIP and even support navigation in the US.

And according to them, the U20 doesn't come in 8 but 6GB. We'll have to wait a few more days for comfirmation though.
