Meizu Music Card Revealed
comment: 26 | Thursday, January 11 (2007) 02:38PM | Posted by chicubs
Some of you may remember that Meizu decided to have a little competition by letting users design their next product: the Music card. Before we only knew what the top quarter looked like as well as the thickness (6.9mm) and width (39mm).

Well, the design turned out like this:

Meh. Kinda boring, isn't it? Oh well, the feature set seems good, but it is sure to draw comparisons to you know what from you know who.

Good Lord ... doesn't this scream NANO or what? I like the old design better.

EDITED TO SAY: On looking at it further after the initial screaming of Nano, what is that button on the bottom left ... a skip left/right button?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Is it like a next and/or prev depending on how much force you press it with? Whatever the case it's pretty bizarre.

i have to say im rather dissapointed, considering how nice the m6 looks.

and this is the control idea that was given to them? not a very good competition then i say.

It basically looks like every other knock-off nano out there. I wasn't really expecting much when I first heard the description of it and saw the top portion.

edit: I've updated the picture to show both colors, and because I don't like it when sites watermark stock photos.

wow .. was expecting a lot more than this. horrible design ... reminds me of the crappy "mp4" ipod nano knock-offs on eBay.

Famous quote - "The camel is a horse designed by committee"

Also, the blue background on the screen was ripped from the standard desktop wallpaper for OS X Panther.....

You all sound like you expected something good from this.
There is absolutely no reason to get this over the M6 unless there's some majeek uberawesometastic feature that the M6 doesn't have.
Only the M2 and M7 to go until we have the M8 (aka Miniplayer 2)

I guess it's cheaper than the M6. But wait, isn't the contest still running?

Contest Duration:
From Dec-15th-2006 to Feb-10th-2007, every registered person can send his own work to us.
From Feb-16th-2007 to Mar-16th-2007, all of you can vote for entries.

If it still is, I think I might participate, if I can come up with a good idea. There are quite strict restrictions though... don't like that.

All skis, snowboards, shoes look alike. All monitors are identically rectangular, all mouse has cord and buttons, everyday life's items look very similar. Never I have had a neighbor mocking me because I have my eye glasses which look similar to his.

When it comes to DAP, everybody seems to be hypnotized by iPod look. Let imagine you are a designer, would you make your DAP look more like a rectangle or a microscope?

Cacophony that's because there hasn't been a product that defined a unique style in those different categories and have made it into pop culture. If there's a mouse out there that has a certain style and everyone recognizes it to be different from the pack, then whoever comes along and makes one with the same elements will be called a copy-cat. It's really pretty simple.

One of the better looking players out there. Perhaps a little too iPod, but better than the M6.

It reminds me of a lot of players. In fact DAPs in general tend to have something reminiscent of something else that is already available.

Yes, it looks like a Nano. Do I care? Not really, as I am sure it is distinctly more usable than the aforementioned. We can only wait and see how it functions in the hands of a real person. If the M6 is anything to go by, I can't see why this one would be any different.

The M6 had enough that was different from the ipod, and better, that it beat it at it's own game. This has enough that's the same about the Nano, and worse, that it doesn't stand a chance.

Yuck. What sort of design scheme is that? D:

They should implement a cross (sort of like the Gigabeat or a d-pad on a video game controller) that is touch sensitive if they want to go that angle. Personally, I think tactile is fine for a flash DAP.
