Insignia NS-DVB4G sighting (the B is for Bluetooth)
comment: 21 | Monday, January 29 (2007) 11:11AM | Posted by Lone
When we initially reported on the Insignia Video we mentioned that it included Bluetooth capability for listening with wireless headphones. Insignia ended up not including the feature, but now as we see a Best Buy product page for a NS-DVBxG, it seems they were just holding off. The Bluetooth version has gotten a bit of a makeover, for better or worse.

So what else is new with this model? Well, it's much bluer than the previous model, with blue backlighting around the scroll wheel ala' the Sansa e200, and some sort of faux-brushed metal on the front, also in blue. Goes with the blue GUI, I suppose. Plus, there's that whole Bluetooth thing.

Best Buy lists a 4 GB version as "coming soon," at a $ 40 premium compared to the regular player. We may be seeing an 8 GB model at some point in time as well.

By the way, we'll have a review up of the "original" Insignia Video tomorrow.

At least it will go well with blue musics.

I like its color, but will get bored of blue soon.

I like blue, but this is a bit much for me.

I like the Sansas's colour concept better: black face, black center select button, blue-lit scroll wheel.

The 2 shades of blue here (the face vs. the led's) matched with the gray scroll wheel is not good.

Hopefully the actual player will look better than the photo here.....

Wow, that is really ugly... All that plastic just looks too cheap. They should have stuck with the sansa looking color scheme.

Hey, I posted about this in the chatbox weeks ago when it showed up in BB's inventory. I never get credit for anything.

i still fail to see what's great about this player. Blue tooth is cool but can you do anything with it besides use blue tooth headphones?

Ah, Air Supply is playing... I think I'm losing it.

I'd like for the bluetooth capability to include remote control (somewhat pointless, but depending on application).

Pfft, do_it posted about the NS-DVB even sooner than you, egloskerry. And I don't seem him complaining...

And sorry Digitaldel, but I've got to agree with some of the others. The blue theme gets a thumbs down from me. It's a little over the top...

eglo please stop complaining about not getting credit. You've been around here long enough to understand how things work.

1.) We post based on solid news (i.e. with links, pictures, etc..) not just hearsay because you work at the store.

2.) We have a News Submit section. Complaining about posts going unnoticed because it was posted in the chatbox and not submitted to us or posted in the forum is not our fault.

We do appreciate your insider information that you get from best Buy but we simply won't post news that you mention in the chatbox if it is not supported by actual sources. I do hope this is the last time we have to go through this.

Thank You,

Michael

I don't mind the blue color as much as the unattractive way the buttons are laid out.

Button interface is fine, blue color plastic has to go, sorry. Black plastic with the backlit buttons? Nice

Lots of people don't like the new look. Edit the picture, erase Insignia and replace by iPod. It will become instantly the greatest design the MP3 player industry had ever made.

No, I dont believe so... Look is subjective, and as such, I feel that the player should be the same matte/shiny black as the other insignia player.

Where's the review of the NS-DV4G? I know the day isn't over yet, but I thought DAPReview said the review would be posted today.

@ Cacophony -
You can't be serious!

With the material on the surface, it reminds me of a heavy duty suitcase. Add the small wheels on the bottom and a handle on top.

@Dave95: yes I was making some sarcasm I have also noticed people are less demanding when the design comes from iPod. Personally I don't care about the look. As long as the build is solid and the user interface is well done, I am OK.
