Hello to all those attending today's seminar. Today we're going to briefly tell you a way to get those unpopular products off your shelves. No, it doesn't involve any discounts or sales. It's all about marketing it properly. The example I'd like to use comes from AMP3, a great site for all types of DAP's. They have a really lame 128MB player (
Inovix IMP-11) right now that sells for £9.99 (~$20US). To go along with that sub par capacity, it has a measly 8 hours of battery life and a microscopic display. Unsurprisingly, it isn't selling to well. So here's their plan...
Just in time for Easter, they put this "player" in a chocolate egg, and wrapped it up nicely in gold foil. What kid wouldn't love to find that in an easter egg hunt? All they did was add a little chocolate, but now they get to charge £19.99 (~$40US) for it!
Just listen to AMP3's marketing team hard at work:
"Well, we've decided to take a stand against this trend for Eggs with nothing in them and present a great gift with the most fantastic of presents inside...That's not the AMP3 way. Inside our egg, you'll find a fantastic MP3 player!....selected by us as a fantastic budget player and more than up to daily use on the bus....this is a luxury handmade chocolate egg, the sort of quality our customers are used to!"
Fantastic! (but not)
