16GB D2! 40/80GB X7 coming soon?
comment: 24 | Thursday, July 12 (2007) 08:27AM | Posted by Dominic
GenMP3 are reporting that a 16gb D2 is due to come out some time this year. Of course this is speculation but if it turns out to be true then that could mean a flash player of up to 32gb's thanks to the D2's integrated SDHC slot, truly amazing news if it turns out to be true, and bad news for me because I have two D2's at 4gb. No word on pricing, release date or any of that so its all very sketchy, fingers crossed though.

Cowon iAudio X7

Next up on the unconfirmed rumour mill, GenMP3 are also reporting that the mysterious X7 will be appearing later this year, or to be more precise, at the beginning of september at the IFA. Other than that the only other claim made was that it will appear in 40 and 80gb flavours. No word on pricing, release dates, specs or anything but heck this is good news if its true. I know many people waiting on an X5 successor will be happy.

Wow this weird i was just browsing the internet and this seems to be unfolding right in front of me. Anyway as i posted on iaudiophile i think the 16gb d2 is a long shot as cowon have only just released a player with 8gb and so i cannot see them getting 16gb players out already.

Nor can I, but they need something to boost them up the ranks so there's an outside chance it could happen. What I'm thinking though... imagine the price! the 4gb D2 is fairly expensive as is!

Yeah lol the price would be crazy especially in the UK it would easily go over Ł200

A 16Gb D2 would be high as a kite price wise. One thing about Cowon DAPs is that the prices drop, but not by a big margin.
I own a 4Gb D2 with an 8Gb SDHC card, so I wouldn't invest in one if this came to fruition, but it would be nice if Cowon had a firmware upgrade that supports larger than 8Gb cards.
Unless this already so, as when those cards go down, a 16Gb card in my current 4Gb D2 would be a nice addition.

Good...now work on the prices. I really want to play with a Cowon player but why a D2 is so expensive in the price/GB ratio ?

I think that prices on these high-capacity daps will drop significantly right after new flash-based ipods release...

@Dominic: haha!! that's pretty funny.

Glad to hear some more info about the X7. I find it weird that they're skipping over the 30gb mark. Waiting until September won't be too bad. August will be fast for me with vacation, college visits, work marching band, etc.

Also, according to a rumor on Gizmodo, Apple might be releasing new iPods around that time as well. I love options.

I sure hope the X7 has TV out. That would be great.

I'm going to predict a price for $279.99 for the 16gb D2.

Digitimes is reporting Apple is causing a strain in the flash memory markets, and that some second tier buyers may end up with no stock. See linked articles.

have you thought about how horrible would be firmware upgrades with 16gb of internal memory? it would take ages to backup 16gb of music... id'd rather wait for 16gbsdhc card to put it into my 2gb D2

i don't know why cowon is bothering with making the X7.

I think HDD players really are a dying breed, especially with flash memory hitting the 16gb mark.

I have a 60gb iPod, its full now. While my music collection sitting on my PC is 100gb. So for me HDD players are very much welcome.

When flash hits 30gb then maybe I'll think about switching.

I think as long as flash-memory isn't hitting the 64gb mark, harddisk-based players with 60gb's or more will always be interesting for a lot of people - like me for example. (happy Zen Vision:M 60GB user!!!)

no flash players are available at 16gb (of internal memory), but as we can see, those capacities are literally just around the corner, who makes it there first really doesn't matter at this point.

I said it before but it is a shame that Sandisk and Samsung won't take the jump out the bat to be the first producers of 16, 24 and even 32 gig flash players. Now if Cowon can be first that be interesting.

If this is true, the best news ever

I have been waiting so long for a flash player that is minimum 20gb. Yes I know it will cost major moo-lah, but hey, student loan gots to be spent :p

ARGH.

I HATE flash. It's ruined my life (slight exaggeration).

There used to be a time where most players were a consideration because they had good capacities. Now it's all about the battle to see who can add another 4gb for a stupid price.

I don't see why everyone other than apple had to get rid of hdds. I realise Creative have the vision:M and there are plenty of PMPs and the like.

I still use my iRiver H320. Why won't someone better it!?
