Meet the Trekstor i.beat blaxx
comment: 19 | Friday, August 24 (2007) 12:23AM | Posted by Michael
IFA kicks off in just one week, and it'll be host to a heap of new players. Hell, a lot of companies couldn't even wait for the start of this event to show us their new stuff. Along with that flash Vibez we mentioned a while ago, Trekstor will be releasing a few new players. The sexiest of the bunch being the blaxx. If the Samsung K3 and Olympus m:robe 100 mated, their offspring would be this player. The feature-set isn't too bad either, check it out:

Features

  • Capacity: 2 and 4GB
  • Display: 1.3" TFT (128 x 160 resolution, 260K colors)
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, Ogg, and WAV
  • Video: SMV
  • FM Tuner/Recorder
  • Line-in and Voice Recorder
  • SRS WOW
  • Battery Life: 15 hours
  • UMS Device
  • Dimensions: 34mm x 81mm x 8mm (27g)
  • Price: 119.99 and 149.99 Euros

With all of these players coming out before the event, I'm hoping there are still some players at IFA that we don't know about yet. We'll of course keep you updated on all the latest from the trade show, so make sure to check back here often.

Update:

I had the sneaking suspicion when looking at this player last night, that I've seen it before. I was relieved of those worries after reading the Press Release. In it, there's a quote from Daniel Szmigiel, Executive director at Trekstor. He says the following: "Our i.Beat blaxx is truly a new movie player on the market". Wrong Mr. Szmigiel. The i.beat blaxx is actually a rebranding of the M-Cody M30. While I have mixed feelings on the whole rebranding thing in general, I think it's just plain wrong to blatantly lie to the public like this. The blaxx is a nice player from the sound of it, just don't pass it off as something original.

Thanks ksy

Will this have the OS of the Vibez? It doesn't sound like it from the specs, but I hope the flash Vibez looks something like this.

Gapless?

I hope so

Really need to get a new DAP with full gapless support, the D2 is getting on my nerves

Not sure on the design, not a great battery life either, 2 and 4 gb is a bit disappointing now too.

Oh for a rockboxed 8 gig D2 DAB with 32 gig memory card.

i have to agree with pondlife. with it's weak storage and battery life, there's no chance i'd get this.

I had a feeling when writing this that it would be a rebranding. The press release said it was something brand new though so I didn't look into it last night, but alas ksy is right. This appears to be a rebranding of the m-cody M30.

So anyone hoping it will sound or act like the Karma/Vibez will be out of luck then.

I'm willing to bet the flash Vibez (if/when it appears) is going to use the very same housing as the current Vibez...

Yeah, it's pretty amazing. Maybe it's because Trekstor is located in germany, and it isn't so ovious when english isn't your first language. It's no excuse for the name, though.

Wow, i.beat blaxx.... I beat blacks.

Maybe they should've stuck with "M-Cody M30". Otherwise, looks like a pretty DAP reminiscent of the old m:robes and the more recent LG Chocolate phones.

Hilarious.
Also the name I - Beat - BLACKS?
is causing an uproar in the interweb.

heh yeah, I've noticed DapHunter. Pretty funny. I wish I was at IFA so I could grill Trekstor on that. Would love to provide a clip of their rep justifying/explaining their naming choice.

it'd be easy, he / she could start speaking german very quickly and you'd be lost (unless you speak german )
