Spyker clones the Archos AV500...Why?

There are a lot of nice things to be said about Archos players, but "pretty" isn't one of them. Most of their players look like they've been chiseled out of a massive block of metal. An Automaker named Spyker must have liked their industrial design however, since they just announced a player with an uncanny resemblance to the AV500:

  • Display: 4.0" Display (16:9, 262K colors)
  • SD slot
  • Audio: MP3, WMA,ACC
  • Video: AMR, AVI, 3GP, MPEG1, 2, 4, RM, RMVB
  • FM Tuner, and Voice Recorder
  • 1.3MP Camera
  • Battery Life: 8 hours for Audio, 4 hours for video
  • Price: 245 Euros

Doesn't it boggle your mind? I mean, If they're going to go the cloning route, then at least choose a nicer looking player!

Maybe it's not a clone but a rebrand?

No, the design isn't exact. The controls are different as well.

Here's the AV500:

And the AV500's battery life didn't suck that badly.

Well what do you expect from a company that makes pricey sports cars?

One might expect that a company that creates such beautiful, extravagant cars, could create beautiful, extravagant PMPs. Oh well. Probably they only lend their name to some cheap Chinese stuff, as so many companies seem to do these days.

The one above is upto 2Gb flash memory, ouch, has expansion, but if that lowers the battery life even more, oh dear.

They have what looks like an M6 clone too, has memory slot too, but lame battery life again too.

Archos does make beautifull players. I really like the AV 500 design. This new player however is not.
